Are these any good. I have located some, however, everything else is sold about except them. Should they be avoided?

All c products should be avoided.

I was curious why nobody was purchasing them. It is like they are inflected with the CLAP or something.

Old C-Products mags had issues.
They were one of the only manufacturers to make 5.45 mags.
Like the rest of their mags, they were hit or miss.
They had decent customer service from my understanding.
Guys would return jam-o-matics for fresh NIW mags.
It was a revolving door.

The new C-Products mag are yet to be determined.
I remember reading on this board that they are owned by ASC.
You'll find those mags at AIM surplus.
I'm hesitant because of C-Product's old reputation.

Garbage. If the same retard is in command over there, forget it...

Even if a new tard is in charge, I'd still have a tough time gambling on those jokers!

CPI's 6.8 mags were the go to mags for many folks. the ones I had actually functioned better than the $40 PRI mags I had.

Overall CPI had been a responsive to the community and made an effort to produce mags in calibers for folks like the 545, x39, 6.8, 6.5 etc. this made a lot of folks happy and the product they put out were generally of decent quality. Some of the odd calibers had their problems but the company spent a lot of money and time fixing the issues.

I dont think it's fair or accurate in the least to decry CPI as "bad gear". that is just not true. they make fine products and are worth the price they were charging.

but what do I know... If you dont say something bad about some companies on the internet, then you must be a fanboy. perception is not always truth.

I did have a couple of their curved 20's and they ran just fine.

It is like they are inflected with the CLAP or something.

...could be what the "C" in C-Products stands for....

The 6.8 isn't a great example, given that the market isn't exactly awash in support items for that chambering. It's a good mag for that caliber, but their 5.56 offerings are just apalling, a history of popped welds being only the first thing that comes to mind.

That's not the only example of a company that makes one/a couple of things well, and eats it at most everything else they touch.

There's links to vendors selling D&H mags, just to name one good option, for good prices, albiet via backordering in many cases, all over the Where Can I Get It thread. EDIT: ...aaaand I just provided my own lousy example, since those are 30-rounders...but that doesn't alter the thrust of the following....

Given a known-good USGI mag of X price, and a sketch mag of X price that might take a little longer to get to you (but WILL get to you), it ends up being a cost-benefits analysis on the part of the buyer. Does one want it NOW, or does one want it to WORK as it should...?

how can a weld on one mag that works really well differ from a weld on another mag in a different caliber made on the same machines with the same quality control and the same welder?

I have to believe that sooner or later a company would solve quality issues (especially after shutting down a business then reforming it with all new machines and equipment) and move towards a better product. I wonder if internet lore will allow their reputation to move forward with their quality or if they are forever doomed to people repeating the same partially informed stories over and over?

The OP asked for experience with the mags and company and I gave it. Perhaps other will chime in with their first hand experiences with the mag in question as well.

easy, the number in circulation.

The more people have a negative experience, the more likely you will hear about bad feed lips, bad cuts, welds, etc.

I'd argue their 6.8, 5.45, and other oddball mags had the same level of quality control, but were produced in sufficiently low numbers that gripes never became apparent.

Cprod had mag exchanges going on in perpetuity. There was no SINGLE bad, isolated batch. I used to get a kick out of their forum on ARFtard. There were piles of "where are my replacement mags?" threads going on at any given time.

Those Slap heads ****ed it up on a regular basis. LIFE IS TOO SHORT to waste time ****ing with mags to figure out if you lucked out and got a functional shipment.

It makes no sense to gamble on those idiots when known good mags are just as easy to find at the same price.

The icing on the cake for those losers at Cprod, was the dickmouth owners personal attacks on ME for stating the FACT that they had MULTIPLE QC goat screws over the years.

Quasi thread derail here...

Do curved 20 rounders have any advantage over the straight 20's?
I've noticed that the new Gen3 20 round PMags are curved.

When you stack tapered cartridges, they curve. To run them through a straight mag means friction. Curved mags reduce friction, and all other factors being equal, should make the mag work better.

I would avoid these mags. You can find Colt/USGI, PMAG, and Lancer 20 round mags if you really search the internet.

There are clearly quality issues with these mags, as evidenced by the posts above. Stick to a proven mag. :D

In practice straight mags are fine. I suspect curved 20's was more a tooling issue rather than product improvement.

I forgot about those mag trade ins and the nightmares that ensued. I think those compounded the issue. A lot of bunched panties over Cproducts.

Damn this brought back memories. One of the guys that used to work there was pretty cool about answering questions and trying to help, but that Larry fella was a piece of work. Couldn't take criticism from customers over obvious problems for shit.

Some of the new mags have the same problems as the old ones. The two I own that were included with an upper haven't left the closet in a long while.

Spend your money elsewhere on consistency.

A few years ago I bought a half dozen of their 30-rounders, three of them would not drop freely from several different lower receivers.

That was the first and last experience I had with that company.

I was looking for the older style GI 20 rounders not the curved for a precision AR build I was doing. I found the CPI mags and after a google search with many "bad" results and complaints against CPI I decided not to buy them. The Magpul 20 rounders don't have a stellar rep either. Now I am looking at Lancer mags, they seem to have the best rep for new manufacture 20 rounders, maybe you should look at those.

Early on I bought several of the CPI stainless 30-round and straight 20-rd mags. Then a lot of problems started being reported and I quit buying them, except for a few 10-round conversions of 20-rd straights I got for a friend in California. I have not had any issues with either stainless mag, or the returned 10 rds mags (drilled out the limiting tab).

I wonder if their earlier mags were more consistent quality and then when they started selling in greater volume the quality became spotty. Or is the stainless ones were assembled with more attention or better process.

There were eventually issues with the stainless as well.

:D I love you markm. Not in a homo way, but like, in an over the internet, appreciative way.

Absolute junk.

I ordered 10 mags from them after the death of the AWB. They were one of the few places that had mags available.

Half of this order had bulging seams and welds.

I dumped them on the internet in 2008 after bam bam got elected. I dumped every other junk mag I had and consolidated to OEM Colt/NHMTG/OKAY mags exclusively.

I refuse to try any other brand of aluminum mags.

DH mags are not OEM USGI.

Absolute crap mags and the owners were thieves. Right before Cprods went belly up I sent 4 of their earlier 9mm AR mags in for a return. I had e-mailed the owners son, I believe his name was Chad, and he had told me to send them in for an exchange. The next week or so I found out the company had closed its doors. Nice. Not to big of a loss for me and a good lesson learned. On another note, TOS was big on protecting Cprods and locking threads with customer complaints.

The fact that we even have a Cprod thread on this site is a little embarrassing. :(

Not to knock you Scotty, but why sell known shit mags to others? I'm sure you would be pissed if someone sold you junk even if you didn't know better. I had a couple of new promags at one time, quickly learned they are junk and proceeded to use them as targets so no other poor sole would have to also waste their time and hard earned cash. When things fails I like to think people will not sell them too others regardless of the reason.
