Hey guys, I bought an upper from PSA over the summer and it only came with a rear sight. so i got on ebay, i know, bad move, and bought a magpul front sight to go with it. I've been thinking more and more its a fake. I know they have 2 lines of sights, but its not marked. my rear sight has a flat head screw, while the front it an hex. when it pops up it doesnt lock up you have to push it all the way back. it was so tight to the rail i had to file it down a bit. it is also incapable of being sighted in for anything under 50 yards, and its pretty much useless for anything beyond that because of my rear sight. so what are the ways to tell if it's a knock-off?

did you look at the person's feedback to see what others said?, even if they were great and 100% positive, sometimes thats a dead giveaway that fake accounts are spoofing them.

It seems as though you already know its fake. Is your rear sight Magpul? I would look at the Troy set regardless and look for the price you paid for the fake and now the new you could have had one from a reputable dealer and or the Troys already.. Do yourself a favor and hit up Grant at GandR, or Primary arms BCM etc and you will be good to go. Lesson learned.. When it comes to things that I may have to bet my life on I do not go for the best deal or lowest cost I can find something, I much rather buy at a premium and have insurance/reassurance that it will not fail when I need it. Even that is not always full proof. Anyway I just got rid of a front sight I had or Id send you one on me. Best of luck

I'm not 100% it's fake but i was wanting imput. he had high feedback from a few thousand people so he seemed legitimate. I'd like to get some troys, but thats about 200$ for something I rarely use. The thing I liked about magpul is it was cheap, but was always there for if my red dot was out of battery....

I know this may be a dumb question, but could I mix sights? like keep my magpul rear and get say a troy front? Would they be on the same plane?

Magpul also has 2 generations of their sights. Make sure you compare both generations.

earlier runs came with the allen screws, later they all changed to flatheads

yeah i was wondering if it was just a different generation. thats the only thing keeping me from saying its a fake. but in that first picture, it shows how it doesnt lock open, and it also was out of spec, so that makes me believe somethings wrong...

i know DD makes good stuff, so how are their sights? a front sight is 60$ from them and thats not bad

"at least its not a fake aimpoint." thats true, this was only 20$ ;)

Considering I don't see "Magpul" printed on the hex bolt, I'm inclined to believe you received a fake.

well I just compared a few and even on their web site the only one that has a hex is a diagram.. Check the front hex to see it says magpul on it if not it is prob a fake, and yeah they only did the hex on G1 for a limited run then switched then they switched.

does the polymer feel the same as your rear? You cant fake the polymer

If I were to have another rifle with fixed sights I would def run the DD ones. I took off my back fixed rear and replaced it with a Troy for my AP . But the DD sights are great specially the A1.5 rear, and they have a new FS that I do not have any experience with.

the screw says S P 10.9 and the polymer feels the same, but looks a little smoother than the rear does. I think i might just get a fixed front and call it a day...

yeah, I think that will be a much better route.

It wouldn't sunrise me if its fake. Based on some photos from a Google search all the polymer looks right, but the one photo I can find of that particular generation of sight has Magpul stamped on the strew head.

Situations like these are why I only buy from reputable online dealers and skip ebay all together. There's way too much fake Chinese crap floating around to take a chance.

DD fixed sights are excellent.

DO NOT buy them on Ebay. Ebay is flooded with fake DD sights.

Just looking at that Magpul logo on the sight it looks fake. Stick to authorized dealers or from reputable sellers in E&E.

I'm sorry to tell you but that looks to be a counterfeit of a Gen 1 front MBUS. You can contact tech support if you like to make sure but from the photos it looks like a fake.

The easiest way to tell magpul fakes is the logo. It's subtle but evident. Definitely a fake.

Looks like a genuine gen 1 mbus front to me.

thnaks guys, I think I'll get the DD front, or BCM, which is the same, from somewhere like midway or something so I dont have to deal with a jackass on ebay again. I did a quick search though and it seems like even sights are harder to find...

PTS ...their airsoft version maybe. They are legit but for airsoft rifles. You can buy a pair on EBay for $25
