View Full Version : Loose handguard cap fix - weld to front sight?

I have an upper that has a loose handguard cap. It has about 1.5mm of up and down movement and also has some side to side play when twisting the handguards. This is somewhat annoying.

However, the F-marked front sight post is pinned nicely and secure. As such, I'm reluctant to remove it and try to install a tighter fitting handguard cap.

In another thread, someone suggested that the handguard cap could be spot welded to the front sight.

Later on if I decide to go with a full floating rail setup, the front sight can be unpinned and will slide off with the handguard cap attached. That's the only real downside I see here.

Has anyone seen or done this? If so, what's your experience?

Cheers,

Shim the cap or get used to the rattle. If it's really atrocious pull your FSB and use some washer type shims to tighten it up.

How would I go about shimming it? What would I use?

If you have a handguard cap with the cuts in it (like the Colt) there is a reason for this. I suggest that you leave it alone as you will end up doing more harm than good. If you are really bothered get a good rail for it.

You might try different handguards, some fit tighter than others.

What do you have now?

I'm running mid-length Magpul MOE's with a VFG attached.
