Have a good friend that is in the market for buying is first black rifle. He keeps stating that he wants the new 6.8 SPC. I don't know to much about it just somethings I have read about the stopping power and how it was made for Mil. reasons to beat the 7.62 round. Any input and ways to keep him with the 5.56?

Your friend is correct. The 6.8SPC has more kinetic energy (stopping power) than than the 5.56. For example, at 200 yards the 6.8 SPC would drop a half man size metal target while the 5.56 would not. As far as accuracy, have no issues hitting 600 yard targets and SUB MOA results at 100 yards with the right handloads. As far as the 7.62 x 39, it would be very similar as stopping power goes.

But is it worth getting over the 5.56mm, say price of ammo? I know looking at the price for the rifle and or upper is really not that much more in cost. We're talking ya when SHTF better all around, but at the range and classes and I only see that the mags are 25 round? I just think your goin to be spending alot more in ammo. Because I sure as hell spit out alot..

Great round if the Uncle is providing the ammo. Until then I'll stick with the measly 5.56mm / .223. I'm pretty sure it would do it's job if I do mine.

I'm contemplating 6.8 for hunting deer, but think it's a little light for elk.

Try the .450 BM 20" Bbl., my father deer hunts with it and puts them down hard, i'm sure you would be pleased with it for Elk.

Your post did not say anything about cost of ammo comparison. The basic questions... Do you need it? Can you sustain the maintenance and use?

Only you can decide that!
