hey guys, I'm trying to build a new upper to use with a scope. I don't see any need for a quadrail on it and would rather not spend 200$ on it. So i was curious of what you all think about safariland's rail mount thing that mounts to standard handguards. Are they any good? heres a link

If you're mounting a scope I'm guessing you're going for precision. A handguard like a Troy Alpha is less than $200 and will free float the barrel as well as allow you to mount a bipod. You can dick around with that bolt on thing but it looks like it's for cops to mount flashlights without permanently modify their weapons.

I wouldn't use that thing on any of my AR's. As previously stated, you want a free float for accuracy using a scope. Quad rail forends are being overtaken by "slick" forends with rail interface points. If you want a decent one on a budget, get the Midwest Industries SS Gen 2.

Why not use a flat top and mount the scope on there like most people?

Agreed, get a smooth free float handguard with removable rails for best use. The Safariland rail will work for now for cheap, if you need to save money but will require you to remove, and leave out, the lower heatshield while it is attached. If you still want it, check your local walmart, might have it cheaper.

Thanks guys, i forgot that the standard handguards arent free floated. I am mounting the scope on the flattop but i needed a place to mount the bipod and i didn't know how to mount one to a plain upper reciever without a railed handguard.

That is a quad mount....but over to the left side are the options. There is a button for the Harris.

Are you looking for something like this?

yeah the only thing i intend for this handguard is to be able to put a bipod on it so that would work fine.
