Just picked up a NIB Mk 25, I don't know how I've never given a look at sig before. This is the gun for me, I have never had a gun "point" correctly for me, even a 1911 was off-center when I would point at a target and then check the sights. The Sig sights are dead-on when I check them after "pointing", and I'm excited because its the first pistol to do so. I have had almost every Glock model, M&P's in every caliber, Xdm's, 1911's, and revolvers, but this is the most excited I've ever been about a new gun. It's nice. I've been dryfiring it to get the trigger down, and I think I'm going to love the DA/SA system. Now I'm going to fondle it while watching act of valor, I'll be in my bunk. 18 round mags are in stock at a few places, I've got 6 on the way and the gun came with 3 15 round mags. Now I just need 9mm and I'm good to go. Paid $899+tax, think I did pretty well. I think this is going to be the beginning of an addiction, its also the first gun my wife has liked, "it's sexy", so she will be getting a P229.

I have a MK25 too. I bought it last year and put a little over 2K through it just to see how it runs. Worked fine.

They seem to be a solid model from Sig.

Holsters are difficult to find, but mine is not a carry gun anyway.

Congrats.

Raven Concealment has a MK25 model of the Phantom available.

JC - congratulations on a good buy, I'm sure it will serve you well. The P226 is still my all-around favorite in the Sig line.

Back when I was carrying a P226 daily for work, I did so in a Desantis Speed Scabbard - it concealed well, was fast to work from, and didn't break the bank as far as price.

If you're looking for kydex, I'd give Contact Concealment a look - very high quality work at reasonable prices with reasonable turn around.

Regards,

Kevin

P226 is a great gun, I carried it for my ten years in law enforcement, and never had a single issue with my department issued gun (didn't have the option to buy it when I med. retired). I mostly shoot Glock now, but I'll never part with my W. German P226 and 2005 P226R. Both are ultra reliable, parts are easy to obtain and I have many 15, 18 and 20 round mags for the platform.

I agree with the OP on pointability, nothing else points quite like a P226 for me personally.

Good to see the Sig get some love. Many on this forum don't like them. I have wanted one for a while, as I have never owned one.

They gotta be descent, they win contracts.

Didn't know that bit about it requiring a different holster, thanks for the info. Does the different rail profile matter with a light attached? I will probably only carry it OWB with a x300 attached.

The P226 Combat has a different rail profile (M1913 Picatinny).

I could be wrong, but from the picture it looks like your Mk 25 has the same frame as a standard P226 and should fit standard holsters. Do some checking though before you quote me as gospel.

Your Mk25 does have a 1913 rail that will require a different holster without the light than the standard P226R. If you put the X300 on it, then it will it will fit any P226R holster made for that combo. Safariland does make a 6378 ALS holster for the Mk25 without a light. The part # is 6378-477-131.

Congrats on your new 226. I have an early 90's W. German 226 that has been perfect since day one. My Dad carried that same gun on my very first hunt and he later handed it down to me. It is a keeper for sure.

One of these days it will get sent to Bruce Gray for some love.

The gun store had another 226 that I can't find online. It was a P226 without a rail, but it had e2 grips, a longer extractor like the sig 1911s, and a threaded barrel, and night sights for $860. I'm thinking about putting it on lay-a-way just because it felt good

It's a re-badged P229 with the coated internals of the Mk25. The association with P228 is in name only.

If you're just basing your decision on the M11-A1 on the fact that you like your MK25, try before you buy. I love my MK25, but from just handling and dry firing an M11 I don't care for it. I might feel differently if I changed out the short trigger on the M11, but I'm not interested enough buy one and try that.

The MK25 has been great to me for its first 1000 rounds. I'd love to shoot it more, but finding ammo is the problem. If you're a fan of all black sights, I have Ameriglo Defoor's on mine and am very pleased.

I now have three P226s, one each in 9mm, .40 and .357, including the one I carried on duty the last 6 years. They shoot great and have been reliable and durable. I do prefer a few others, notably Glocks and my carry HK P2000, but that is primarily due to the placement of the slide stop on Sigs and my grip.

The P228/P229 do feel different (more noticeable hump at the top of the left grip) and I don't care for them. Nothing "wrong" with them, just not for me.

I too find that the balance and "pointability" of the REAL P228/M11 to be vastly superior to that of the P229/"new" M11. I attribute this to the increased weight of the P229 slide, which, for me, makes the pistol feel "dead" in my hand.

Oddly enough, I prefer the balance and handling of the new-slide P226's over the old slides - so, your mileage may very well vary!

Kevin

P226 width at top of grip(widest part): 1.43"
P226 width at mid of grip(narrowest part): 1.30"

P228 width at top of grip: 1.43"
P228 width at mid of grip: 1.30"

P229 width at top of grip(pre 2007): 1.43"
P229 width at mid of grip(pre 2007): 1.30"

P229 width at top of grip(post 2007): 1.47"
P229 width at mid of grip(post 2007): 1.30"

Sig increased the width of the plastic P229 grips near the slide release lever to reduce the number of shooters experiencing failure to lock back on last round. A lot of Feds still use Sigs, and the primary pistol issued is the P229 .40. We didn't go with the thumbs forward grip in great frequency until around 2005. Not sure if the P229 grip dimension changes were in response to Fed complaints, but it is an interesting coincidence.

The P228 plastic grip dimensions have not changed. I prefer the old style grips, so I usually just stick new P228 grips on my P229 .40s so that my discontinued old-style P229 grips don't get damaged. You can't buy the pre 2007 P229 grips from Sig any more.

I just passed 6,200 rounds since new with my 2012 226R -- and have yet to have a single stoppage. Have run a bore snake thru the pistol twice and added a bit of grease three times since new.

I did trim my slide stop lever down to resolve my issue with intermittent slide stop interference.

I also use just a boresnake, but I have been running Fireclean in all my handguns latley, I have had excellent results with it.

The hump is more noticeable on the P228/P229. There is a hump on the P226 but it doesn't feel the same. I suspect the shorter grip on the P228 pushes my hand up into the hump more. Regardless, there isn't anything wrong with the P228/P229 and I can shoot them well, I just don't like them.

I have a 226 that I bought a few years as a CPO. It is a US made one with a forged slide. Never had an issue with it, but I have only put around 500 rds through it.

Just bought a Mark 25 yesterday! Had to get it to go with my Mark 24! Now I'm sending it off to Grayguns for an action job and new sights! Had him work on both my Hk's. Outstanding work!

I have a couple older P226 pistols...one I inherited from father in law a West German made gun with a 1989 date-code....so a year or so back a gunstore working pal talked me into a group-buy on police-trade P226 pistols to get a decent price...what did I get??...got the exact same thing I already had..a 1989 vintage P226 with rusty grip screws

I was hoping for something different/newer...but what the hey..I like Sigs. So far the most comfortable hi-cap nine I've ever held..and really like the decocker mechanism that doesn't just 'CLACK' the hammer down like most decock pistols.

The slide-stop and decocker placement takes some getting used to in comparison to most auto's...but all in all..I think the Sig 226 and Sig pistols in general are top of the heap guns
