It must be a blue moon because here's a story about an ex-Marine Corps vet with a concealed carry permit who stopped an assault and, by all accounts, did it by the book.

On the Huff-Po website, no less. Nicely done, Mr. Blackmore.

And then at the end of the article it groups him with a bunch of whackjob "vigilantes" who killed people with their legal, concealed carry weapon(s). Really?

Typical Huff Post. It is still good to see the good guy story.

Per WI deadly force law if the Marine would have shot the assailant, he would have been charged.

The imminent threat of death or great bodily harm ended the second the assailant stopped kicking the woman to move toward Blackmore.
It wasn't until the assailant started to confront the Marine when Blackmore drew his weapon.

Local right wing talk radio hosts tried to draw parallels between this incident and the one that happened to Milwaukee mayor Barrett a couple of years ago.
Big difference being that the man that attacked the mayor was armed with a tire iron.

While I support what the Marine did here, he got lucky.
WI law is quite clear on the use of deadly force.

The actor may not intentionally use force which is intended or likely to cause death or great bodily harm unless the actor reasonably believes that such force is necessary to prevent imminent death or great bodily harm to himself or herself.

Kudo's to this marine.
His only error in my opinion is to disclose to the media exactly how many guns he owns (8).

Good on him though!!
