A M4 upper receiver went up for sale on the PSA site, so I jumped on it.

After I placed my order, I realized the upper receiver did not have have the hammer forged barrel like some of the others have.

Example of M4 upper hammer forged (http://palmettostatearmory.com/index.php/ar-15-05/complete-uppers/psa-16-hammer-forged-madness-m4a1-stripped-upper-without-bcg-or-charging-handle.html)

Upper receiver I ordered - PSA MOE M4 Premium - 16'' CMV CLStripped Upper (http://palmettostatearmory.com/index.php/ar-15-05/complete-uppers/moe-m4-madness-black-16-cmv-chrome-lined-stripped-upper-without-bcg-or-charging-handle.html)

From what I understand, the only real difference between hammer forged and non-hammer forged is accuracy? Am I correct in that statement?

I think FN makes the hammer forged barrel, but who makes the non-hammer forged for PSA?

Should I cancel the order and wait for a hammer forged? But then again, considering how rare things are right now, maybe I should take what I can get?

Several top AR makers use non-hammer forged barrels. The one you ordered is chrome lined and MP tested. Sounds good enough for the price.

There isn't much practical difference between a hammer forged barrel and a button rifled barrel

The barrel for your PSA M4 is made by Wilson arms. They make barrels for many companies in all sorts of flavors from M4-M14-M1 and bolt action flavors.

It is a good barrel and will serve you well.

just don't be in a hurry to receive it. Ive had an upper on order from PSA since 3/5/13.. order still shows processing, but was listed as "in stock" again this past weekend.

I don't think there is any difference between the two.

The word 'hammer' sounds a lot cooler than the word 'button'.;)

I did a fair amount of research about the chrome lined, Chrome Moly Vanadium barrel that came with my PSA M4 Carbine and was satisfied that it was more than adequate for my application. The CMV metal stock is just another metal blend used for barrels that fall between the 4140 and the 4150 (higher carbon content) high tensile steels. The addition of vanadium to the 4150 "blend" just gives it a unique quality prefered for barrel manufacturing. There are CMV barrels that are not chrome-lined, and some with the chrome lining. So not only is this PSA barrel of high quality material, it is also CL for improved corrosion resistance....Win/Win!!

Thx for the input guys.

The rifle I am building is for my wife. A couple of weeks ago the PSA lower came in, then the parts kit, upper has been ordered, now I just need a bolt carrier group.

The buttstock and forearm grip are pink magpul, the pistol grip is pink ergogrip.

In the next few months we are moving further away from town to a rural area. I wanted to my wife to have a reliable rifle for home protection, and in case she hears anything going after the chickens while I am gone.

Cool. I built one for my wife, then bought the pink Magpul stuff for Christmas. She loves it, everyone else think it is cool too.

I thought PSA barrels were made by FN.

From what I understand:

The hammer forged barrels are made by FN.

The premium barrels are made by Wilson.
