Interesting point IMO here is that Sen. Reid may not include Schumer's proposal for expanding background checks in the bill that gets to the Senate floor. The background check bill has been in trouble for weeks as Dem senators (Schumer and Manchin)shopped around for an NRA-friendly GOP senator who would support the bill and could be used to sell it to other GOP senators. They never found one willing to support it. They were hoping Tom Coburn of OK would sign on, but he balked over record keeping requirements in the bill.

For several days, it's been clear that a new "assault weapons" ban and a new magazine capacity limit won't be in the bill that gets to the Senate floor.

So the vaunted gun control package that actually comes to the floor of the Senate may be nothing more than Sen. Leahy's gun trafficking bill.
