A friend of mine offered to sell me a load of .223/5.56? ammunition which was sealed in unmarked battle packs. I opened one and the brass cased, 55gr FMJ had the heel markings of "CJ" and "92" now I know the "92" means it was manufactured in 1992 but there is no other identifying markings as to if this is .223 or 5.56 pressure loadings.

Plus they were all on 10rd striper clips in unmarked brown boxes.

Now I'm sure they are not reloads and the brass is dent free and bright so does any one have a idea who the maker is by the "CJ"?

Thanks!

Norinco, I believe.

My Google-Fu must be weak because a follow up search just returned a possible of,

China North Industries Corp., (NORINCO), 7A Yue Tan Nan Jie, Beijing, Peoples Republic of China

I know they made a decent 7.62x39 but nothing came back on the quaility of a 5.56 loading.

CJ is a marking that is related to Norinco. Since they also make an M4gery for export I would venture to guess it makes sense that they make ammunition as well.

That stuff has a pretty good reputation. Low ball him and tell him it's chinese ammo... and probably has lead in it. :p

Maybe Mattel should start selling ammo...

Don't know if it's the same stuff but I fired off a couple of boxes of the yelllow-boxed Norinco stuff a while back. Had a pretty good punch to it and worked without any issues. Brass cased and non-corrosive (supposedly).

Stank like hell though...

I think that's it. I get that brass every so often and the primer pockets are always loose. Not sure if it's the hot load or the brass has a thin web.

He has 3200rds in battle packs that he got when his father passed away and does not even own a AR.

If its safe I want it but I'm still wondering is it loaded to .223 or 5.56 pressure?

Shoot it through a 5.56 or break a round down and weigh it out.

GET the ammo. Now is not the time to look a gift horse in the mouth. If you're shooting it in an AR, you're golden.

Thirty two hundred rounds of Norinco? I'm assuming at a buddy price, as he has no personal need for it? I would think that you should pick it up before he gets a look at the demand for ammo online at places like this forum. He's sitting on at least $1500-$2000 worth of ammo given current prices.

I made the deal this afternoon and he only wanted $500.00 for the lot to pay for a car repair. Being a friend I was very honest about what the current market value was on .223/5.56 ammunition but also advised him when selling ammunition with vague markings he had to be careful to sell to someone with a 5.56 chambered rifle just to be safe.

We both ended up being very happy with the deal as I have some more plinking ammo and he can pay his car repair bill.

I'M still thinking this is .223 pressure but its only a guess until I can shoot it in my A2 and see the numbers.
