Last week I picked up this new Gen4 G23 to use as my off duty gun. My issue M&P 40 was becoming just a bit more than I wanted to lug around in shorts and flip flops. This gun was test fired 2/27/13 according to the spent shell in the box so its of fairly recent production. The recoil spring is marked 0-3-3 and the ejector is the 28926 which from what I understand is the correct one for the .40 S&W glocks.

I picked up a set of Trijicon HD night sights and immediately set to "correcting" the flaws I consider Glocks to have. Prior to being issued my M&P 40 I carried both a G23 and a G22 on duty for the past 13 years. The "problems" I have with the Glock series of guns is the hump on the base of the trigger guard, the finger grooves (Glock, please come to your senses and get rid of these) and the slippery texture (this is a problem on the M&P's as wel). I undercut the trigger on this one as well as removed the finger grooves and factory Gen4 texture. After that work was done, I set about texturing the grip and forward frame flats with a fine tip to achive the texture I like the most.

This past Sunday I went to the range with the wife and kids and put just shy of 300 trouble free rounds through the gun. The HD sights are very fast to aquire up close, but admittedly did make precision work from 25 yards and out a bit more of a chore. Recoil on this gun as compared with my old Gen3 G23 was quite a bit softer. All brass was ejected cleanly and consistently to the rigtht and slightly to the rear.

After my range session I broke the gun down to inspect for slide rail wear that I have seen posts about on this and other forums. I found no visible signs of wear or peening on the slide, barrel, locking block or lugs. 300 rounds aint much so I will keep and eye on it, but as for now the gun is good to go and I will be carrying it AIWB in a Dale Fricke Archangel holster and RCS mag pouch.

Here are some pics of the work I did to the gun. Let me know what you guys think. The pics aren't the best as I took them with my iphone.

LOL, to each his own. They are ok on the full size G22/17 but on the 19/23 they are a no go for me. I have always liked the Gen2 frames much better.

Nice job on the grip mod. You did that yourself right? Wanna do mine? :D

I agree that finger grooves like the Glock are not a great idea. These grooves will NEVER fit everyone's hand.

Looks nice - What is the best way to undercut the trigger guard - How did you do it? My middle finger's middle joint gets beat up pretty bad.

Thanks bud. I put the gun upside down in a vice and used a dremel on low speed to slowly start grinding down the dreaded hump until I had enough space for the knuckle on my middle finger. I smoothed it out with a felt wheel on the dremel. Go slow and test fit as you go. It's really easy.

Thanks. Yes, I did the work myself.

Me too, I love my finger groves, haha. But I understand one size does not fit all. I'm the opposite of OP. I'm not a stippling fan for the most part. But I do like the uniqueness it gives the gun and how people do it different ways. I think you did a good job stippling yours and removing the finger groves.

I have a g23 and love it so I'm glad you are enjoying yours.

I lived with the grooves and trigger guard hump for along time. Obviously on my duty guns, the department wouldn't let me touch them. I have no issues with my current issue M&P save the lack of stippling. Thanks for the comments thus far.

Sorry, I just do not see the point of stippling a gen 4, the BSS grip is fantastic.

And I can still use the interchangeable grip system if I so choose. Try shooting when it's not perfectly dry, your hands are covered in mud, sweat or worse and then you will see the point.

I'll second this. While the gen4 texture is certainly a improvement it still really less than ideal imo. But then again if I could I'd have 360* texturing that is the equivalent of 20 lpi checkering if not more. If its not to the point of making my bear hands weep blood after a range session its not grippy enough :D
