Has anyone ran into the problem with WOOD lower hand-guards and an Ultimak? I have a few more places to run to for Easter and then I'm going to mount my rail/optic on my AK, but, I've read that the wooden lowers are not giving the Ultimak enough room to mount on properly.

I recommend a polymer lower with a heat shield simply becuse they run so much cooler. This is a good time to add one.

Mounts just fine with a wood lower.
The wood does get hot though.
I switched to a Russian polymer lower.

Cut out clearance with a dremel.

I used to run a wooden lower handguard (from romanian parts kit) on my AMD-65 with the ultimak upper. As I recall I had to dremel out some space. :moil: I ran it through a class no problem as far as heat goes, but I always wear gloves when AK-ing.
