I like the Streamlight TLR1 but don't believe that fits the M&P compact. The TLR3 being plastic doesn't seem as substantial. Is the TLR3 good to go or should I look for some other light?

I have tried the TLR3 on my MP 40 and it keeps coming off after 4-5 rounds no matter how I tight I get it. I have thought about trying some Loctite on the rail to see if that will hold or maybe tooldip. But I really don't need a light on my CC anyway.

I'm not sure why Streamlight didn't make the TLR3 metal like the TLR1.

The TLR3 is pretty much your only option for the 9c. I have one mounted to mine, and like it. It's bright as hell for its size, and seems adequately durable for what it is. As soon as my light bearing holster shows up, I'll be carrying it with the light on as well.

Here's pic for reference:

I've read about the mounting flanges breaking on the TLR3 model?

Used it on my edc compact for years. 2 low light clinics. No failures.

I'd say its GTG

Thanks for the pic. That always helps. Same w hearing it being put through a course. I think they're on sale at midway now too.

Not sure what the MidwayUSA price is, but LApolicegear.com has them for $70. That's where mine is from anyway.

I think Midway is $70 too. No reasonably priced surefire lights for this gun? "Light shield"?

The viridian c5l is another option that I have considered for my 9c. I have heard the same issues that others mentioned with the tlr3. Anyone have experience with the c5l?

This has always been a gripe of mine as to why Surefire hasn't made a compact light for a compact handgun.

It would be nice to see a Surefire X300 mini or something similar for the compacts.

Until then I'll just carry a Surefire handheld for the M&P9C or G26.

With SHOT 2014 rolling around is there any word on a surefire x300 mini or any other light options for a m&p compact?

Id think there would be a market them and Id rather not go with a plastic streamlight tlr-3....

The TLR3 being plastic doesn't seem as substantial.

The only time this is worth worry is if you overtorque the clamp that secures it to the rail. The head of that screw compresses on the polymer side of the rail-clamp, and cranking too hard can make that screw-head "bite" the polymer, which will eventually weaken it and make it break. Ask me how I know.... :p

I called Streamlight, they replaced it.

Use Loctite or some kind of thread-locker, mount the light and torque to one "umph" of effort (according to the US Dept of Weights and Measures, two umphs = one dammit), no more. Strongly resist the effort to crank on it any further than that. LET THE THREAD-LOCKER CURE before shooting the thing, and witness-mark the head of the screw so you can see if it backs off under use.

C5L works on them.22495

About $250…a lot more than a TLR-3.

I seem to remember a picture of a smaller Surefire that used one battery from a year or two ago but apparently never made it to the market. Insight made a small light at one point, I think it was the X2 or something (the one I saw was unimpressively bright). I would use a TLR3 at this point.

I had an email from Surefire when they first announced the X300 mini, but they were having problems with them. Keeping my fingers crossed for 2014, but may end up with the Steamlight. Will Keep JSantoro's directions handy for installation!!!
