Okay, so I was looking around to see if I can find any 5.56 battle packs still about. It seems to be getting harder to find, and when I have found it, it seems rather expensive. So I have a few questions.

My first question is what is the average quality of the 5.56 surplus ammo? What countries is it available from, and what countries produce better quality ammo? Is the surplus ammo worth it as opposed to commercially available civilian ammo? Is the quality comparable?

That's about it. I tried searching for it on here and got old classifieds and a few threads on the 7.62x51 surplus. Figured I'd see if there's any info available.

There is no true surplus 5.56 coming in really.

IMI (Israel), Privi (Serbian), PMC X-Tac (South Korean), ADI (Australian), are most of the types of 5.56 imported nowadays. And its the same price or more than commercial .223 or LC XM ammo.

Now with the panic buying everything is ridiculous.

I paid $336 shipped for 1200rds of IMI M193 last summer, I could sell that now for $800-900

No kidding. So I would be better off just buying civilian commercial ammo?

No, its still good ammo, but there isnt any super cheap surplus 5.56 right now.

Buy whats cheapest. Commercial 223 or 5.56

Dicks Sporting Goods has been sell fresh IMI 5.56 M193 20rd boxes for $8.99 with a heel date of 2012.

Its imported under the Federal Independence brand and is some really good stuff.

Two years ago I also grabbed a few 1200rd cases of that IMI 5.56 M193 at $319.99 with a heel date of 2009 and it was typical IMI goodness.

For imported surplus South African made 5.56 battle packs were some decent stuff that pops up now and again.
