This is a long, but very good read. Quite apropos to the current discussions about gun control.
A few interesting points:
- 1928 law had much discussion about the imminent need to do "something"
- Banning "military style rifles" was a frequent topic of discussion. Keep in mind at the time these were bolt action Mausers with high capacity (for the time) fixed 5-round magazines
- registration led to confiscation
- Gun prohibitionists used current events to their advantage to push for more control/restriction.

We MUST continue to present a unified front against universal background checks, which are certain to become defacto registration.
