The package also creates what lawmakers said is the nation's first statewide dangerous weapon offender registry, creates a new "ammunition eligibility certificate," imposes immediate universal background checks for all firearms sales, and extends the state's assault weapons ban to 100 new types of firearms and requires that a weapon have only one of several features in order to be banned.
The newly banned weapons could no longer be bought or sold in Connecticut, and those legally owned already would have to be registered with the state, just like the high-capacity magazines.

Registering magazines? Yeah that'll work...

You know what, at the end of the day, if that's how irrationally they respond to that tragedy, screw 'em. You can't help people like that. They're clearly so warped in their thinking that they can't reason properly anymore. Your only hope at that point is to get as far away as you can and do your best to ensure those types don't get elected in your new home state.

Robert Crook, executive director of the Connecticut Coalition of Sportsmen, contended the bill would not have changed what happened at Sandy Hook Elementary School, where gunman Adam Lanza fired off 154 shots with a Bushmaster .223-caliber rifle within five minutes. He went through six 30-round magazines, though half were not completely empty, and police said he had three other 30-round magazines in addition to one in the rifle.

154 shots in 300 seconds= 1 shot every 2 seconds, easily achievable with pump or lever action rifle.

Six thirty round mags have 180 rounds with means he left about 10 rounds in each of the three un-used magazines.

Why did he stop shooting if he was only 2/3rds thru his ammo load...

Wow.

The stupidity is so thick you can cut it with a knife.

Legislative leaders on Monday revealed proposals spurred by the Dec. 14 Newtown school shooting following weeks of bipartisan, closed-door negotiations

Just like New York. If this had been a bill related to Medicaid, people would be up in arms about the lack of transparency and a break down of Democracy. Since it's gun control, just crickets.

Senate Minority Leader John McKinney, a Fairfield Republican whose district includes Newtown, said Republicans and Democrats have understood they needed to "rise above politics" when they decided to come up with a legislative response to the massacre.

In other words, they are have decided to bypass the normal legislative process and rule by fiat, because they know what is best and not those who voted them into office.

"We have to be satisfied. There are still other things that we want, we'll be back for in later sessions," he said. "But for now, it's a good thing."

Undoubtedly.

And lastly, the stupidest quote of all.

Allowing magazines that carry 10 or more bullets to remain in the hands of gun owners would leave a gaping loophole in the law, said Mark Barden, whose 7-year-old son, Daniel, was killed in the shooting.

"It doesn't prevent someone from going out of the state to purchase them and then bring them back. There's no way to track when they were purchased, so they can say, 'I had this before,'" Barden said. "So it's a big loophole."

So a law will prevent someone who decides to shoot up a school from going to a different state and buying 30 round magazines and bringing them back into the state and using them. I mean, they want to shoot up a school but they wouldn't want to break the law or anything....

Wow. Can't people see where our country is going and why the hell don't aren't people having a fit about this shit?!?!

Why did he stop shooting if he was only 2/3rds thru his ammo load...

He stopped shooting the XM-15 and killed himself with the Glock 22 he was carrying as soon as he saw the first police officers arriving.

They found 154 empty .223 shell casings and he still had 105 rounds remaining in four 30 round magazines. He dropped six 30 round magazines. Three were empty and the others still had 10, 11, and 13 rounds remaining. He still had three loaded 30 round magazines in his vest, and 15 rounds remaining in the XM-15 he dropped. The numbers don't exactly match up so some of the 30 round magazines weren't completely loaded. He never fired the Sig P226 he was carrying. All of this began when he shot his mother in the head with a bolt action Savage Mk. II while she slept. She was the only human he had any kind of relationship with and probably the only person he cared for.

I blame her more than him for what happened. She was lucky she didn't live to see the aftermath.
