So here's the condensed version (link below). Verizon gets a red flag regarding some unusual server traffic and decides to check up on one of their employees. "Bob", who's pulling down a six-figure salary, has apparently outsourced his actual workload to a consulting company in China and is actually spending his days ****ing off and surfing the internet watching cat videos.

And apparently Verizon wasn't the only company paying "Bob". The story suggests "Bob" was earning several hundred thousand dollars a year for work that he was contracting out to his Chinese consulting firm for about $50K/yr.

And if "Bob" had taken a couple of easy steps to cover his tracks a tad better, he probably wouldn't have been caught at all.

Some people's kids.

That's... kind of criminally/comically genius actually.

I don't see how it is criminal unless it is a crime to break company policy. I am sure Verizon has an out sourced call center for talking to Americans during the work week, so why go as far as to say it is criminal for him to do the same? He does his work, gets excellent performance reviews, and doesn't bother anyone.

He was not a Verizon employee. He was an employee of a "critical infrastructure company" that was contracted with Verizon and Verizon was asked to investigate.

Interesting racket the guy had going. Sloppy in his "fieldcraft" though.

And this is just one of many ways our enemies are given access to critical data. Maybe one day 'Merica will wake up and realize that China is not our friend.

Either this is an old story or someone did this before.

It's criminal because of how easy, and ingenous it is. That's like cheating at life. Not in the "commiting crimes" way.
