BREAKING NEWS: Gunshots were reported Thursday night near a building on the Massachusetts Institute of Technology in Cambridge, Mass., according to a posting on the university's website.
The incident was reported near the Ray and Maria Stata Center, also known as Building 32. The area is cordoned off and surrounded by responding law enforcement agencies, according to the posting.
The university described the situation as "active and extremely dangerous" and said an investigation is underway. Officials are advising people on campus to stay away from the area.

I've heard reports that the suspect disarmed the LEO in order to acquire the gun. Uncorroborated, unconfirmed, and subject to change like most early information / rumors.

CNN has posted on their website that a MIT campus police officer has been shot and killed.
However, given the accuracy of the various news agencies in recent days, I don't know what to believe.
If reports are true, thoughts and prayers are with the fallen.

Bomb threat at Beth Israel Hospital -- police are trying to find dogs to sniff it out.
Seems unlikely, probably a combination of confusion, tension, bad information, etc. Lets hope so at least.

Watertown Control reported that the suspect on the loose is the "suspect with the white hat from the photos." I believe this is the marathon bomber suspect with the white hat.

I used to live there in the mid 1980s and all the Arsenal names come from the Watertown Arsenal on the Charles River that is about 200 years old. It's a historic site and in the last 20 years I think they have built the mall and a park and a lot of development. They'll probably need the canines to find him down there.

Ironic and appropriate that it should end up here though.

86 and 87 I was in Germany, but I was in Pepperell both before and after those years (class of 84, NMRHS). It is a small world.
Even though I "hate" Massachusetts now, it is all due to the politics and laws and taxes and numb nuts running the place, and not the place itself (still wear Green), which is a great and awesome place, with lots of good people (and lots of not so swift ones too).
Even though I was 40 miles from Boston, it is still a bit close to home for me to have all this stuff happening there. Makes it a little more "real."

There were explosives found at Brown University right when he went missing (EOD did a controlled det). They never ID'd a suspect and the investigation went nowhere. I guess we know now.
Glad to hear they are keeping aware of plain clothes and potential Blue on Blue.

I know what you mean, I can't imagine living there now but it was fun back then. The history is amazing and I loved it. It feels so real to me even all these years later. In 1987 I was standing on Boylston right between where those two bombs went off, waiting for my brother and his friend to cross the finish line in the 1987 Boston Marathon. I was at Berklee for a while so I spent a lot of time down in that area and still get back every now and then. Couldn't live there now though.

Mumbai played out in Boston. I think that's why they robbed the 7-11. My area is currently on full lock down and we are being told to not leave the house etc. Water town is a few towns over for me. I hope they can take this guy out before he can kill anyone else, but I have no doubts he plans to go down fighting and taking as many with him as he can.

It's strange. Literally 2 days before the Boston bombing, my brother was saying that everybody was looking for middle eastern terrorists, but that that opened the windows for Islamic terrorists of other ethnicities to get in.
He specifically mentioned what happened at Belsen.
