View Full Version : Better Mid length FSP cutout rail?

I recently re-acquired a rifle from a friend of mine. He took good care of it but added a rail that I am not a fan of.

It is a DD M4 rail with a Mid length cutout. I am looking for a different option that will give me an extended rail but allow me to still keep the fixed FSB.

I know Centurion makes one, but I like to know all my options.

Also I had the thought of taking a Noveske NSR rail and cutting it. Anyone have any experience doing this?

What specifically don't you like about the Daniel Defense piece?

Y'know the old saying... If it ain't broke...

If you're feeling bold, here's a thread on cutting up some NSR's to do exactly what you're talking about: https://www.m4carbine.net/showthread.php?t=128947

is that one of the rails that requires a DD barrel nut or did it go on the standard one?..

It is the old style M4 rail that takes a special barrel nut and ring.

I did this described in the linke ^Rb posted below. It works without too much trouble, though the fitting of everything is a little tight/tedious.

The other rail I found that would work very well was a LaRue 13.2. My original plan was to cut a FSB pocked in an extra LaRue 13.2 I had, but when the Noveske NSR came out I went that way instead.

To make it work with a weapon mounted light (e.g., Surefire x300), a 13" rail or longer should work. The crux is having room to reinstall the taper pins either through already present or additional holes put in the rail.

Apex and Samson also make rails similar to the DD M4 rail and Centurion rails mentioned above.

Apex came to mind as something different. I ended up going with the Centurion and its great. Has a small profile for being a quad, reminds me of my LaRue. Troy has one dont they?

This is the one I was thinking of . . .

I don't think Troy has a Midlength cutout - though if it is new, I admit, I haven't been looking anymore.
