hello everyone. I want to do a A2 style rifle, but cant seem to find a A2 upper with M4 ramps or atleast they are not easly identified that they have them. I know of some rifles that Colt made recently and saw some old postings of people selling the A2 upper reciever off of their rifle. Can you buy individual A2 uppers with M4 ramps? Would it be easier to machine them? Rifle ramps and M4 ramps are also two different degree angles correct? i think i read somewhere on here that one is 45degrees and the other is around 36 degrees? different why?

when M4 ramps are cut, are they cut with the barrel, barrel extension, and reciever already assemblied?

You can get by without the M4 feedramps. It's not worth the effort to machine them after the fact. You can use a barrel extension with M4 cuts on an A2 upper (but not vice versa) but to machine the upper for M4 cuts would remove the hard anodizing on the factory feedramps and for what benefit? Do you have requirements for M4 feedramps or are M4 feedramps just a box you want checked?

IIRC the LaRue rifles don't have M4 feedramps and they are a top-shelf manufacturer. I know some people will disagree and say that you absolutely need M4 feedramps and while I admit they are a desired feature not having them isn't going to be a big disadvantage provided the rest of the upper is mil-spec. That's a big if, however. If a manufacturer isn't using M4 feedramps what else are they cutting corners on? You are at an advantage that you haven't purchased the upper yet so you are able to choose one that is indeed advertised as having them.

dont really require them but i did want them. the rifle barrel extension are the same as m4 length wise? so on a A2 upper i could use a M4 extension? i had a feeling that the M4 & A2 extensions has other differences than just the ramps.

I don't know the specs such as angles but here are some pics:

thanks ya i was wondering that if they are different angles that if i use a m4 would it be to steep, but i guess if people have used m4 cuts on a rifle receiver thats fine by me.
