View Full Version : Rare S&W M16 BCG!
Awhile back S&W built some M16 (FA) BCG's for a contract. S&W only uses SA BCG's in their AR's so this is kind a rare item for them. Since they cannot use them, they have offered them to us!
These BCG's came from the same place that companies like Colt buy some of their BCG's from. Each Bolt is HPT and MPI'd! The bolt is also marked MP4. A black extractor insert, copper colored 4 coil extractor spring and a Crane O-Ring is also installed.
If interested, you can order one here: http://www.gandrtactical.com/cgi-bin/commerce.cgi?preadd=action&key=40650

That's kind of interesting, certainly different. I don't need one right now (3 spares on hand) I wouldn't mind one for the novelty.
I needed a BCG. It's not much more than BCM. I will give it a shot.

$235 I guess is not that bad these days for BCGs in stock. I will be glad when this madness ends.
I'm getting the impression that Grant has some pretty good connections at S&W...

Grant, is that an "A" on the side of the carrier?
Grant, is it safe to assume these are of the same quality as a colt or BCM carrier group?
Curious, how come they can't use them?
Must be part of that contract, right?
I love doing business with Grant! Thanks!

Or they want all their rifles to stay the same with Semi Auto carriers.

Grant, why does S&W only use semi-auto carriers in their rifles? Is it some weird compliance issue in a particular state?

Smith offers full auto M4s (M&P4) for agencies. This article describes their entry to (and exit from) the Army's individual carbine contest.

Well I was in need of a new BCG so I picked on up given the fact that no one else has any in stock.
EDIT: to add, you say a copper 4 coil spring? Interdashing that sounds like my stash of colt springs.

I don't think so, but will double check.

I hate to get into comparison threads so I will just say that I would use one in my own PERSONAL AR. Sooooo.........

Got mine in today and looks great, The only difference is instead of a copper spring it came with a standard 4 coil silver spring...Not like it matters as I change every manuf. spring out with a Colt one. I can def tell who made it though and its a good company.
For all those that asked the questions, what does a proper bolt staking look like.....

Best examples.
Ok, ordered it, but not sure why its better than a standard BCG(except I've been wait listing for a BCG for months:(). I guess I need to spend some more time in the tech section.

They are built by a top of the line manuf. and they are available unlike most other quality BCG's. The staking is excellent on these btw. I also like that there is no making on the side of it like most manuf. like to stick on thier, only thing it has is the MP4 marking on the bolt.

So none of their IC/PIP secret sauce

Nope, the only thing special about thier IC/PIP was it was a fancy coating and maybe a better material like Carpenter Aermet, oh and sand cuts in the bolt carrier tail. This is just your standard BCG, well made of course.
See nothing super fancy about it imo.

I ordered one for a back up. Received it three days after ordering from G&R. Thanks Grant.
As the BCG is the heart of the AR, it only makes sense to have a quality BCG. One that has been HPT, MPI, proper metal, properly staked. This one covers it all.

Ordered one this morning. Got tired of waiting on BCM BCGs and playing catch me if you can. These appear to be just as good.
Went into the office yesterday for the first time since Tuesday and found mine sitting in my mailbox. I'm sure it probably arrived Monday or Tuesday but our admin assistant checks the mail pretty irregularly as she is busy on other things. This one is a spare unless I get a wild hair to do another build. Great service as always from Grant. One cannot go wrong by patronizing those businesses that support this site.
I scooped one up as well, an extra spare is good but im eyeing up putting together another upper to replace the BM on my backup carbine. Mine came with the copper colored spring. As always excellent service from G&R :)

Lucky Bastard! Mine just came with a silver spring and o-ring. Its been replaced by a Colt spring though so no worries there. I will say though the silver spring certainly felt as stiff as the Colt springs I have.
Here is some pics of the spring I got and the bolt marked MP4
