I know this is supposed to be a simple install on the Beretta 92 series. I have the 92A1 which has the roll pin securing the lanyard loop and hammer spring. Do you guys just beat the roll pin out with a hammer? How do you do it without scaring the frame or mangling the hole? Just checking to see if there is a better way than hammer and punch.

It taps out very quickly and easily with the appropriate sized pin punch. So easy in fact, you almost don't need a hammer. There is no beating or mangling involved.

Do yourself a favor and order one of the "wishbone" style pins from Brownells...its a couple bucks and 10x easier to install/uninstall.

You'll need a little punch to get the roll pin out, but the "wishbone" style is just held in by the "pressure" of the spring. Italian made 92s come with the punch style pin (like your 92a1) and US made 92s come with the wishbone, but they're interchangeable.

It's a ROYAL PITA but you can install the D-spring without removing that at all...just turn the frame upside down and let the old one fall out, then drop the new one in...but honestly gettig the hammer back on with the spring under tension is a huge pain...its easier to remove the lanyard cap.

Do you put in a vice with padding, or just knock it out on a block of wood?

Is yours an Italian made gun? If so it has a roll pin like mine. As others have said, order the "dog bone" shaped pin from Brownells that Beretta uses on the American made guns to replace the roll pin. My roll pin just needed light taps with the proper sized punch, 3/32 if memory serves.

I got two blocks of wood, and put a towel over them. I put slight pressure on the lanyard loop, and GENTLY tapped the pin out. I changed to the D spring, and installed an Elite II hammer, and replaced the pin with the dog bone style pin which slid in by hand. Took about five minutes, and I took my time.

Both mods are worth it. My DA pull is much lighter, and my SA pull is a bit better also.

The roll pin will tap out with a hammer and punch.

Then, consider purchasing the lanyard loop pin found on US made 92s. This one will push out easily once the lanyard loop is pushed up to relieve pressure.

I second what GrandPooba said. I can push mine out with the tip of a ballpoint pen once I put upwards pressure on the lanyard loop.

I have replaced that roll pin with the USA style pin on all Italian models. Some are harder than others to knock out. It was a SUPER pain in the butt on the two 92 compacts I previously owned.

In fact - had I not done it so many times, I may have given up. They were unbelievably hard to get them to just initially move.

I have replaced the hammer spring in 3 different Berettas (2 Vertecs and 1 Centurion), never had any problem in removing the pin. I pushed on the spring cap slightly to relieve the pressure on the pin and the pin easily fell out or needed only a slight push. The key is to relieve the pressure first.

Yes - USA made ones. You missed the part above about Italian models having a roll pin that must be beat out. The USA models have that easy to remove pin. Most take the roll pin out when replacing the hammer spring, and then using a new USA style pin in the gun afterwards. No need to beat the roll pin out again after that point.

yes, the 92s in the vid have the US made pins, which are held in by the mainspring tension/lanyard loop and are very easy to get out.

The Italian 92s come with an actual roll pin that you need to beat out with a punch and hammer.

Just wanted to let everyone know that I've sent a blue 92A1 to this guy for a holster. From what I've seen there aren't many options available and his holsters have received great reviews on other sites. He is great to deal with and holsters are very competitive in price.

Got the new D spring and USA pin installed. What an improvement!Ive always shot Glocks and M&P's, but this setup is by far the smoothest, most predictable trigger Ive ever felt using factory components. Feels better than my M&Ps with $100 Apex kit in them. Loving the Beretta, now for grips!
