i've seen several pics on different forums lately showing people taping cards to their stocks, so that they have their dope handy.

i usually run my dope on a retractable lanyard attached to my belt or chest rig. (and i keep different dope cards for different DA/temps)

however, sometimes my dope changes for whatever reason, like my barrel gets shot out and slows way down or something. or i'm going to run a stage and know the ranges ahead of time and want to put just those ranges in a quick-access location. or maybe i'm using a 400 yard zero or something and just want to write the come-ups and downs.

so rather than taping the actual card to the stock, I write the info on a business-card-sized piece of paper, put it in a magic lamination pocket and affix it to the side of the gun with magic velcro. magic

the stuff you need to do this is usually about $2 at walmart. shown below:

I have a strip of the pile side of the velcro on the side of most of my rifles. so i just leave it there and reuse it any time i want to put some info on the side of the gun. the squares of velcro are much larger than you will probably want, so you can simply cut them down with a knife. this is also handy for dudding your stuff up with velcro patches, moving tape switches to multiple locations or whatever. heck, put a pic of your ma up there if you want.

also you don't have to put it on the stock. a piece of pile on your scope rings, or inside of your butler creek ocular cover can be handy too.

i carry a couple of squares of laminate and velcro in my eberlestock pack along with lots of other goodies. that way, i can always make a range card in the field and keep it dry. oh, and if you keep a grease pencil with you, you can just write on a blank sheet of laminate.

sorry if this tip is excessively obvious and pedantic. i thought it might help some of you. i didn't invent this. just passing it on.

That is cool. The reason I put it on the stock is if I got brain dead after the timer goes off in the middle of the stage i can easily glance down. But I like your idea as well.

right, you can still put it in the same place on your stock. this just makes it easier to swap out if say, you are switching between different types of ammo like practicing with cheap reloads and using factory ammo for work / matches.

or maybe you have two scopes on QD mounts and switch between them and you want to remember something about their reticles, like how to use the ranging lines.

i also use it for my fireforming loads which have 4 grains less powder than my match loads.

Your dope is so few that you might as well just memorize it. *Food for thought.

Of course I memorize it. The card is a backup for when I forget. Think of it as a malfunction drill for your brain.

That's MAGIC man! Thanks for sharing.

WRT memorizing, it's always good to have it available. Because the more you see it, the more you'll know it. Sometimes it's good to review it a bit - in my previous life I had an inch thick gouge ("dope") manual I made myself for weapons, fuzing, tactics, etc. I'd page through it in my freetime, Pre-mission, what have you. I knew that thing backwards and forwards. But in the end I knew it so well I never used the manual inflight.

Exactly. Those that think they will never make a mistake have never really done anything.

Here is my version of the matter:

It' s a 7.62x39 dope for a .223 TA11 ACOG. I'm a visual kind of guy picture is much easier for me to use than a table, so I made mine with the picture of the actual reticle. Pen markings are wind corrections for 2 & 5m/s winds. Those dopes work when the center donut is zeroed at 150m. Bullet will be within the donut up until 200 metres.
