This is a NTT serial numbered G26 OD frame.
It has only a couple hundred rounds through it.
It has spent most of it's life loaded in a Ready-Tac IWB holster from SKD.
I rarely carry it as I prefer my G19, but I keep it around for hot summer days.

So...
What's the deal with this crack?
It doesn't seem to be the best place for the frame to be cracked.
I ran a search and came upon a couple threads where peoples OD frames cracked at the lanyard hole.
Obviously, the G26 doesn't have a lanyard hole.

Is this thing dangerous to shoot?

I don't think it is dangerous to shoot for a few rounds per se (i.e. if you have to draw down on someone with it RIGHT NOW) but I would call glock ASAP and have them fix it.

They will fix it with a black frame.
These frames are no longer in production.

They are producing OD frames for Glockmeister as we speak. Might be a good time to call them.

The preorders are sold out with the exception of the 30SF I believe.

Holy schnikey!
The timing couldn't be better!
Thanks!

Looks like I'll be giving them a ring tomorrow morning.

Anyone ever see this issue on a sub-compact Glock before?

Negative. That has to be a manufacturing defect, maybe something about the dye they used for the OD polymer frames? Just speculation. but if as you said it did your gun only has a few hundred rounds through it then it has to be some problem with the frame itself.

Yeah.
The round count is close, and like I said, it lives in a holster.

I've never seen a crack develop there either.
It's a pretty wide crack too.
You can see daylight through it.

I'll keep the thread up to date as to what Glock says/does.

Keep us posted. I've got an Nxx series G26 as well, although mine is black. I am assuming yours is a Gen 3, as my Nxx is a Gen 3.

I had heard long ago that something about non-black polymers could cause a weakening of the structure. I had heard this regarding both gun frames and magazines.

Either the presence of the dye used for coloring or the absence of something specific to black (carbon black ?) could be a factor. Perhaps less tolerance for UV. I also remember this idea being roundly poo-pooed by various manufacturers, and they know a lot more than I.

Yours must be a defect in the manufacturing process (polymer batch or frame curing or something) for it to happen with such a miniscule round count. Hell, my Keltec P3AT held up better than this.

Again, keep us posted. If it wasn't unique to your gun (and I bet it wasn't), we should be seeing more of this from others with frames from the same batch of polymer.

I'm interested as well. Please do update.

This got me thinking - can a polymer frame (Glock, Kahr, M&P, whatever) be field-expedient repaired? Is there some kind of epoxy-like substance that could be employed if needed to get a cracked polymer frame up and running, if only for a few hundred plus rounds?

Something to be used if all you had was a cracked polymer frame gun and no way to get it replaced. I don't think the crack in your particular gun is in a high stress area, and I bet it would still function - at least for a while, but I can see where a crack in the frame could cause enough flexing to mimic limp wristing and cause FTEs or FTFs.

Makes me think I need to pick up a few steel or aluminum frame guns. I know they too crack, but at least they can be welded (or so I have been told).

Unless you are already in the market, I wouldn't go that far. This is far from common malady. You could just as easily experience a failure in a steel framed gun from manufacturing defect. Some polymer frames have exceeded life of aluminum or even steel framed guns.

Yeah. Exactly.

This hadn't deterred me from polymer framed pistols or Glocks specifically at all.
Nor am I deterred from the OD or FDE colored frames.

I only have one black framed Glock.
And I don't carry it.

Wow, hadn't seen anything like that before on such a low round count gun. But, I'm sure they'll fix ya up. Make them pay for shipping

No UPS overnight for me.

Why not get it there sooner on Glock's dime? They have excellent customer service, and would probably really like to take a look at that frame.

I am not in a hurry with this.
I rarely carry the piece anyways.
It will get taken care of.

I contacted Glock this morning.
They have replacement frames for my pistol.
Looks like either the frame, or the whole pistol will be swapped out.

I'm curious as to why the frame cracked.
I'm sure that Glock won't say.

Is it the photo angle, or does the front of that dust cover look flared?

That's really strange how it not only cracked, but spread apart with the end sort of flared out.

Did they let you know if you will be receiving a black or od frame? Been carrying an shooting g26 for alittle over 4 years and I have not seen this issue. But I have only personally owned the black frames.

I had them confirm that they had OD replacement frames.
I should be GTG.

They might not have any way of knowing what went wrong that particular day.

Good to hear they will do you right with a new gun.

So here is an update....

They gave me a new OD frame, but the slide and barrel are the original. (meh)
Glock is not sure what happened to the original frame.
Speculation is that it is a molding flaw as the crack is right on the seam.

The replacement pistol has been back at my FFL's for over a week now.
With buying and moving into a new home, and having a baby girl in the past 2 weeks, things are kind of busy.
But everything got taken care of on Glocks end in a timely manner.
I'm pleased with my customer service experience.

What he said.

If they don't offer a RMA, I would demand one. The will email you a Fedex RMA which will include the price of a box from FedEx. Have done this numerous times, with my Gen 4, sometimes you just need to put your foot down. The majority of techs are great to work with, especially on defects.

The whole thing is taken care of already.
Did you bother reading the whole thread?

My good friend holds a C3/SOT, he can get things done for me and get them done fast.

Besides, what difference does it make how it was shipped to Glock ?
That's not what this thread is about.

Thanks!
I'm now in a home with 3 females.
God help me!

The saving grace is our new house is about a mile from my home range.
I can hear local police teams training from my back yard.
Music to my ears...

Same here. Maybe we should start a support group that meets monthly at the range. :p
