getting spray paint off?

I bought a used glock that the guy spray painted the frame.

What's the best way to get the spray paint of the frame?

Acetone would be safer wouldn't it? There was a thread like this a few weeks ago and I mentioned how brake cleaner can melt some plastics. I've never done it on a glock or anything though. They may not react to BC like some plastics. Poly prob has more experience on that part than me

So the brake cleaner basically blasts the paint right off.
It doesn't need to soak.
Blast it, and if you're worried about your frame, run it under water after you use the brake cleaner.

FWIW, on metal parts I'll strip paint, duracoat, alumahyde, etc. with airplane stripper.
Works great, no scrubbing.

Auto parts store and some walmarts have it in auto section. It is very strong remover. Will removed all painted finishes off of aluminum wheels
Also called aircraft remover or something to that effect

Poly, will it remove the anodizing on ar?

It will not affect the anodizing.
Best of all, the stripper is water soluble.

The brake cleaner should be fine for the plastic. I think it can be harmful to rubber though. I started a paint job on my HS stock yesterday and used some wal mart brake cleaner as a degreaser. Didn't have a problem with it at all

Thanks for the information gentleman! I've been dreading the thought of stripping it but from the sounds of things it should go pretty easy/quickly.

I've un-painted a lot of firearms.

Acetone and Prfession Goof-Off work best.

Aircraft remover works too but that shit is just too rowdy for me. It burns like Hell and is messy and hard to work with.

Use 100% Acetone and have it saturate a cotton ball. The Glock frame can handle it. It may take a while since the paint probably has been soaked into the pores of the frame. As you are wiping it off, make sure you wipe off the acetone and the now somewhat runny paint that's being dissolved. If the runny paint dries, wipe it off with fresh acetone or you're going to have paint streaks. After the acetone dries, it may leave a white haze on the frame. Use some gun oil to wipe the frame down to get rid of the haze.
