First I am new here. Not new to shooting and not new to the AR. I have DD rifles and have been more than happy with them. However my latest acquisition has wear patterns that are different then what I am used to seeing. I am not complaining or making accusations of poor quality. I just simply want some input on what you all think and whether this is something I should possible investigate more. With that said. History: Bought this rifle and took to the range 2 times. I ended up sending my BCG back because the chrome lining was scratched and chipping. Interior of receiver had no noticeable wear. No big deal they sent me a replacement quickly. I installed a new bcg, lubed, and hand cycled at least a couple dozen times over the course of a 2 months. Every time I did it I could smell the burning smell from the metal rubbing together (yes it was lubed). The other day I took the bcg and re-lubed up the rails and other parts of the rifle. I took it out shooting. I only shot 100 rounds. It was fantastic as always. I brought it home and opened it up and this is the wear I saw. No other rifles wear in this manner that I have had. Most wear around the cam pin cutout (normal). This was exhibits hardly any wear around the came pin but has different wear.....

A line runs the length of the receiver from where the rail on bcg is cutting in it. Also the charging handle is digging in a bit. Not too big of a deal I guess. You can feel these when you run a toothpick over it.

Next is a chip/gouge in the receiver just before the barrel extension. There is also a groove that can be felt that runs the length of the receiver just like in the other picture.

Both these lines/grooves are on the same side of the receiver. The other side has no marks. The grooves are formed from the rails on the top and bottom of the bcg.

Here is a picture of the BCG in battery just to show it looks like it locks up good with no problems.

Not sure of this is a problem or the character of this particular rifle. Like I said no other rifle I own or have owned shows this wear pattern that is why I thought I would ask. Some rifles have well over 5 thousand down them. They show wear around the cam pin and a bit from the charging handle. Thank you.

Everything gets a good cleaning when first bought and then for the first range session it gets a heavy bath in either CLP or Slip2000EWL (I did this when I put the bcg in as well). It was plenty wet that is for sure. This isn't my first rodeo that is why I was wondering about the wear patterns. Seems pretty aggressive but I don't want to jump to conclusions just yet. I wanted to get feedback on how others would interpret this.

Are you suggesting the receiver may be out of spec? Did you call DD and ask them about what you're seeing?

I am not suggesting anything. Like I said at the beginning of my original post. I am not making accusations about quality or anything. I am merely wondering what is causing this type of wear pattern. I do not have it on any other rifles. It could be normal. I don't know. That is why I am asking here before I start bitching to a reputable manufacturer that has better things to do than field my questions. I posted to see what other have experienced with their rifles, DD or other. If this happens to some of them then I got my answer. If this is an unknown mystery that no one can solve then I will call DD.

Burning smell? Like matches?
That's normal.

As for the wear...
I wouldn't worry too much about it.

Yeah the smell was like matches. I am pretty sure the smell was coming from the charging handle in the receiver.

Thanks for your opinion about the wear marks.
