I'm about to pick up a second glock and put my current Gen3 in reserve incase my new one goes down for any reason. I was going to pick up a gen 4 17 if there was any improvement in the recoil impulse. If not i was going to give a gen 4 19 a go. I had a M&P9 that have softer recoil and less muzzle flip that i liked, but it didn't really fit me very well.

I have a gen3 g17, a gen4 g17 and gen4 g19.

Recoil is about the same in both the g17's.

The new dual spring guide rod is supposed to tame it.
Not like it was unmanageable though.
I have a gen4 17 and havent shot it yet

A reduction in perceived recoil is often noted with gen4s over the previous models. The difference is less pronounced in the 9mms than in the 40s and 357 Autos.

If you look at my thread below I will say the Gen 4 17 is unbelievable. I had the choice between the Gen 3 and Gen 4 and decided why not go with the "new one". Anyway, I have fallen in love with it and the recoil is nothing. Now granted, I'm used to a duty weapon that shoots .40, but still. I could not be more than impressed. My next purchase is the Gen 4 19.

It's not super different, but I thought the Gen4 guns had a little less recoil.

Exactly this.

I find a slight but noticeable difference.

I agree. My Gen4 G17 has less muzzle rise as compare to my Gen3 G17 with the same ammo.

I have Gen 4 G26, G19, G17 and G34. The Gen4 G17 had the least amount of erratic ejection of all my Gen4 guns.

I think you may be right however it does not explain my exclamations in Spring 2010 that the Gen 4 advantage was dramatic. I thought so at first but long later I started shooting RTF2 17 and 19 and that got me wondering if the better grip surface was it more than anything else. Slight is probably about right.

I find the difference more pronounced with larger caliber or higher pressure models. The G17/19 is barely noticeable. However, there is a bigger difference in my 40SW, 45ACP, and 10mm glocks.
