View Full Version : Magtech CBC 62gr FMJ 5.56 (556B)

This is kind of a new product on the market and wanted to give some info about it.
Magtech (CBC) is one of the few (if not only) companies producing a 62gr FMJ (none steel core) in 5.56. The casings are annealed, primers are sealed and bullet has the cannelure. I have found this ammo to be very accurate and reliable & consider it to be some of the best 5.56 ball produced today.

Please let us know if we can answer any questions.

I bought this ammo from Grant, and it shoots great for me.

Do you find it to be of better quality than Magtech 55gr?

I like the heavier grain weight so I prefer it.

Thanks, I was looking under ammo and missed it. $500 per k is too rich for my blood, but looks like good ammo. I can't wait for this ammo drought to end so things can normalize again. Whatever "normalize" means.

To be honest, you won't find this quality of ammo for cheaper. $450-$500 will be the new "norm" for 5.56.

So unfortunate :( I lucked out on some prvi for 42 cents shipped last week, or else I would jump on a case of this in a heart beat.

What makes you think it'll be different this time than after the last "scare" when the President was elected? Prices shot up then as demand skyrocketed and then after a year prices dropped to pre-scare prices ($300 per k, plus or minus $20). I know the dry spell will last much longer this time, but I don't see any reason why eventually prices won't level out (other than inflation and increased cost of materials and gas, which shouldn't be too much).

As far as I know material prices have gone up and because manufacturers know that they can price it accordingly and it will sell.

Why sell ammo for 375.00-425.00 a case if you know you can sell it for almost 500.00 per case?

All things considered this would seem to be true.

While I know I can probably google it, for those of us reading this here can you specify where this was made and if they have any previous related affiliations? And while it's brass cased, does it seem to shoot clean?

Ammo never got this high last time. On top of that, the US Govt wasn't buying it either.

In 2012, QUALITY M855 for $430 a case sooooo.

It is made by CBC in Brazil. Magtech/CBC/Sellier & Bellot are all the same company.

We haven't updated prices on M193 in over a year. We also don't intend to stock M193 as long as we can get this 62g FMJ.

One last note about this ammo. It has a flash retardant in it as well as a proprietary primer mixture that reduces flash. Their new Bonded LE ammo also has this.

Yep. Most of the 5.56 ammo available is typically blems, reloads or factory rejects from .Mil contracts. This is one of the FEW sources for FIRST quality 5.56 from a Military contract holder.

I won't lie, I've been shooting alot of steel cased stuff. I find WPA and Tula at bigger retailers locally for .35 to .42 a round. Most people will sell it in local gun exchange forums for .50. So it would only make sense for me to grab a case or two next time it pops up.

Actually that TULA would make for some decent ammo if they put a good bullet in it.

I disected and tested a variety of combos of powder and bullets... and the bottom line was that TULA had good marks on everything. But their bullet sucks balls and won't shoot inside of 4 MOA even with every other part of the cartridge replaced with match stuff.

Thanks Zane, I have been looking for 5.56 for the new DD V4 I got for months, it would not work with my .223 55Grain (FTF). I called DD and they told me that I need to stick to 5.56 or heavier .223 because it require higher pressure in the 7/1 twist barrel. These looks like exactly what I am looking for.

I must have got lucky! Also, during recent times when people get ammo in stock I check their site throughout the day when possible to see how it is moving.

And it seems that your ammo lasted at least the whole day, into the next.

But I guess it says that before you can update OOS.

I have lake city 5.56 order at Sportsman's guide on back order since March of 2012 and another one since November of 2012, it's absolutely crazy out there. I just try to order when I can, but it's been scarce.

Grant,

If you don't mind me asking, how is the QC on this CBC ammo?

I was shooting with a buddy not too long ago and we had a box of their .308, which was having issues with feeding and chambering in an AR-10.

It turns out the COAL in that batch was too long.

QC is excellent. In some of their older .308, it was designed for the M1A type of weapons (thusly causing issues with certain more modern auto loaders).

I don't know what happened to that Hipster. I think he's really one of those guitar strumming fags on the Geico commercial... and gave up shooting.

We could shoot some and give a decent review.... I'm not as thorough as Molon, but we can get a decent review done.

I ordered a case of the Magtech M193 recently and just got back from the range after shooting at paper (cold and blustery conditions). Not sure if the gods were smiling on me today, but this grouped incredibly well. Nothing in bulk (55g or 62g) that I've shot before matches its accuracy. Unfortunately, it looks like it is out of stock at G&RT as I can't seem to add it to my cart tonight. I'll be ordering more of this when available.

Set up: Complete BCM 16" mid length with a DD Omega rail and Vortex PST 1-4.

How soon things change... Barely six months later, and you have this in stock at $435 shipped. The M193 is barely $400 shipped.

So much for the new "norm"?

Supply and demand. If there is NO ammo to be had, the prices are higher. If you have more access to it, the prices fall.

We can still charge $450 for the ammo (and get it), but if we can save people money, we try to.

Here's my target at 50 yards (I like a 50/200 zero) with the Vortex on 4x. This is better than my old eyes can usually produce, so I think I'll give credit to the ammo. Went on to create repetitive pleasing sounds on the 200 & 300 yard steel targets.

Should be in price with the Magtech M193: http://www.gandrtactical.com/cgi-bin/commerce.cgi?preadd=action&key=CBC556A

The MEN ammo is made in Germany and is who outfits the German police and Military. CBC is made in Brazil and outfits a lot of central and south American Militaries. There are three companies under the S&B flag (Magtech, CBC and MEN).

Honestly, I didn't bother to check it. It's always been good for me and the price is much better than most of the M855 garbage.

Got 100 rounds of it coming next week. Will chrono & report here.
IG- would you recommend this as a SD/SHTF round to stock up on?
