Today at a gun show, I picked up another new 92FS with factory night sights today - No, only I only have 1 left without night sights...

Not 9 like before - but 7 is still enough for a Beretta Wheel.

The Wheel is back :D:D

Well, I sold two 92A1s, Two M9A1s and two 92 compacts.

I didn't like the way the railed models balanced. I honestly can tell the difference. They are more front heavy. And, I don't like the M9A1 checkering. Its too shallow to be effective IMHO. I like the plain serrations. I get a better grip with them.

I sold the compacts because I MUST have rubber grips on my guns. For whatever reason - the hogue grip panels for the 92 compacts are fatter than the ones for the fullsize 92. The don't taper towards the front of the grip like the fullsize ones do.

The compacts balance nicely, but I have small hands. The hogue grips for the compact make the grip too big for my hand. And, I do not like the factory grips. I tried to deal with it for over 2 years. I finally decided to sell them and just buy more of the 1 model I like.

You like what you like, Ship!
Still...... a beautiful collection.

I purchased a 92a1 a few months ago and really love it.
I like the railed models and frankly wish my Elite II had one.
I had both(92A1 and Elite II) out yesterday doing a comparison. That Elite II has one beefy slide!

Could you run the heavy slide from your Elite II on the 92A1 frame?

I'm not sure. I'll take a look and see what the differences are.
I would love it if Beretta released a hybrid 92a1/Elite II model that was decock only.
Could you imagine how hard it would be to find a holster?:D

Wouldn't that essentially be the 92G-SD that Grant posted about in this thread?

https://www.m4carbine.net/showthread.php?t=120601

And if you found one I suspect it would be a good time to start learning how to make your own holsters.

OP I neglected to mention it in my previous post, but that's a very nice collection of Berettas you have.

The 92a1 has a slightly beefier frame,Picatinny rail, rounded trigger guard, different checkering and buffer in the frame. There may be other differences as well.
The 92G-SD is a very nice beretta in it own right.

I see. Thanks for the clarification. Some of the points you mention are glaringly obvious now that I'm looking for them.

You could run the Brigadier slide on a standard 92 frame, but the slide stop wouldn't function. The Brigs/Elites had a special slide stop to accommodate the thicker slide.

Damn I wish Beretta would make G-models of any kind again, but especially the 92G-SD and 92G Compact.

Me too, if only so that there would be more holster choices. I was lucky to get a Comp-Tac MTAC before they stopped doing the Brig version.

I'm still looking for a Beretta Elite 1A.

Always wished Beretta made an Elite 2A.

Well, Beretta upgraded their CNC machinery. What they said ever since to people at the Beretta Forum is that they didn't want to take the time (manpower) to re-enter the specs for the slide. But after years now, this is a crappy excuse.

I think they could increase some sales if they did so

Very nice!

Part of me wishes I got into Beretta's before I got into Glocks. I've never had a problem with the ones I've used in the past and to be honest, they are dead sexy.

VERY nice! The 92 FS are sexy guns indeed

I like the non railed models better, and the slanted frames with "cut" backstraps fit my hand better.

Can you post some comparative pics of the sights?

I found a few pics online that show the differences (my camera sucks trying to get pics of the sights - I've tried before). To me, even during the day, my eye picks up those nice, white circles around the tritium insert better than the plain white dots. So, I like the night sights much better and shoot better with them...

That is a pretty lame excuse. If they ever start running the guns with the heavy slides again I would certainly buy one.

With regard to the safety vs. decock only issue, I seem to recall reading that a standard Beretta could somehow be modified to a decock only.

No, not until very recently. You needed a "G" slide. now, there are a couple of commercial entities that can do the conversion now. But, that is a fairly recent thing where they did some trial and error until they figured out an easy, reliable way to do a conversion.

Now, the PX4 can be converted easily, as can the 90-Two model, and I believe the 92A1 model.

Me personally, I am actually fine with the way the FS is. I have owned a couple of PX4s in the past - I could have gotten a "G" model. I opted for the FS. I've had that style of beretta for so long that I just prefer it due to being used to it.

Thanks for the clarification. I haven't been up on Berettas for quite a while. My first handgun actually was a 92FS and in a lot of ways I wish I still had it. The only two things that really nagged me about it were the lack of an integral rail on the frame and the front sight being milled onto the slide. I always wanted to put night sights on it. The only solution I'm aware of for that type of sight is to ship the slide off to have the front sight drilled out and a tritium insert installed. It's not something I ever bothered with before I sold it though. If I ever stumble across a model with the heavy slide and a rail I might jump on it if it's in good shape and the price is decent.

Yes, it is Tooltech Gunsight that will drill the front sight and install the night sights. Word is that they do it on the factory guns for Beretta. They have done it for years and years.

I had two slides done this year, and had 2 or 3 done in the past (which I later sold). They do a fantastic job. The two slides I did this year each only took 2 weeks... And this included MY time to ship them to the company.
