I need a Kydex (RCS, Contact Concealment, etc. type) holster for a Glock 22 with an x300 ultra attached. However it needs to have active retention. This holster is for OWB open carry for my call outs for our Disaster Response/ SAR Team. I have several Safariland ALS holsters, and they dont ride close enough to the body. The ALS holster still holds the pistol out too far and it snags on stuff, be it limbs, building debris, ropes, etc. I want a close, hip hugging holster, similar to the types I wear concealed. I can't seem to find any reputable companies that make a holster like that with an active retention feature (i.e. a thumb break or similar). I've contacted a couple of holster makers, and they don't seem interested. Any help would be appreciated.

I can't think of anybody who produces such a product.

However, have you considered a non-active retention holster that offers adjustability? Cranking the retention up on them would most likely work. Ex: something like this https://highthreatconcealment.com/viewProduct.asp?pid=7 ?

It's not that I'm afraid of the pistol falling out. But this is to be worn open carry while in a call out uniform. I can't carry an open top holster with no retention while working around people. Plus this type of work has a real possibility of snagging the butt of the pistol on ropes, limbs, exposed wires, rescue webbing, etc. while working in precarious environments. I don't need to worry about losing my pistol while extracting a victim from a dangerous situation.

Safariland ALS would have been my answer but looks like you’ve been there.

Does it absolutely have to be Kydex?

If you go with the Bladetech avoid the tek-lok attachment feature. I have the level 2 retention w light/holster for my G20 and this attachment method has the gun/holster hanging away from the body much more than I like (the very same problem you describe with the Safariland holster). I would call Bladetech and find out which attachment method keeps it against the body.

Safariland has a 7000-series line of ALs based holsters to address this specific issue. Should be out soon.

Not sure if blade-tech still does this...

Call them and ask them if they are still custom making the belt loop style holsters for level II. A couple years ago they were doing the custom made belt loops when requested.
