View Full Version : Did I buy an authentic Daniel Defense rail or the airsoft version?

Recently purchased this rail off eBay and haven't had a chance to install it. The rail looks and feels like a Daniel Defense rail, but what caught my attention was the airsoft pellets I found in the box it was shipped in. I checked the specs of the authentic DD Lite 10.0 rails and they are supposed to weigh 12.5 Oz. I'm not sure if that is with or without the barrel nut. I weighed the rail at roughly 10.5 Oz. Another thing that caught my attention on the rail itself has what appears to be a fill hole on each side:

It's legit.
FWIW, if you buy from a reputable vendor, there would be no need for a thread like this.

I have two lite rails, one on a SPR from BCM and the other on a 14.5" from DD. Both have the fill holes. Your rail looks legit from the pics. I hate ebay though. The knockoffs are getting better and better and there is no shortage of unscrupulous sellers...and even buyers.

as an FYU, DD does license out their rails for airsoft

The fill holes are on both versions. The biggest reason I'm convinced yours is legit is the slight step on the side faces between the rail interface and lightening holes - the knockoffs make that difference too small, almost like they didn't trust that where they milled that down 8 thou was real.

I bought an Omega rail last year that I suspected, and called Daniel Defense.

The gentleman I spoke to asked if mine had 'scallops' at the ends of the rail slots, which it did (as does yours). He said he had never seen a fake one with scallops......

An Idea:

Don't buy off of eBay. We have wonderful vendors here as well as members to purchase gear from.

Sooner or later you WILL get snakebite playing on eBay...

Verify it by weight, not by looks. Airsoft pellets would not be a vote of confidence by any stretch.

Yeah I agree. Ebay and paypal are struck from my list. I would use more reliable sources.

Almost got burned myself. Just for anyone who doesn't know, anything "magpul PTS" is for air soft. Thank God I got outbid.

I'm sure you all know that but I don't thinknit can be said enough.

Did you weigh it with the barrel nut, lockup collar and bolts? I could be wrong but i think the stated weight includes those items.

There are liscensed DD airsoft copies made by madbull that use the exact same size ,material, and finish. 6061T6 with hard anodize. But I believe they leave out the gas tube hole on most of them. So weight might not even tell the truth. Same size and materials could come to the same weight.

That would be Magpul PTS. The Magpul PRS is an adjustable fixed stock.

I got burned on a set of DD sights. Funny enough, the front was the real deal, the rear wasn't. The guy refunded my money when I called him on it and didn't want them back. I got a quality front for free and a rear for a beater rifle. No more Ebay for me.

What did you do? Did you step in and stop the dudes from buying junk that will fail possibly when they need it for real. Man I couldn't of kept silent over that. I hope you tell everyone you know not to support that scum shop!!!!

To the OP, send all the photos or a link to this thread to DD and see what they have to say about it. If anyone will know, it is them.

I think it is horrible. But they had to know as they were only spending like 30.00 on the stocks. I did not see the act just the product and the owner told me he sold it to them. I wont send anybody there to buy anything they would trust their life too. He is still trying to pass them off as real and knows they are from china.
