The what fors:
Defensive purposes, urban and suburban environments. Primary factors, reliability, usability, flexibility for my environment. Desire to keep weight down, but I am not a weight weenie, if something is more functional, I will use it, but I dont do barbies.

The whats and whys:
Colt lower - What I had, reliable, no brainer.

Midlength Gas/fixed FSB: I actually prefer carbine gas as I believe it is the most reliable with even not so good ammo. However, I do like to put my hand exactly where the fsb is on a carbine gas, and I wanted to keep a fixed front sight for durability, and I dont mind it being there, somehow and irrationally reassuring.

Noveske: Its an N4 Basic upper, I like the Noveske build quality, I like the barrel profile. Frankly, I think they are an outstanding buy for what you get. The basic allowed me to choose my own rail, was not thrilled by the Noveske rails, and the NSR is not a fixed FSB. If I had to change anything it would be the pronged flash hider, but I am not motivated enough to mess with it.

Aimpoint T1: Reliability is excellent, always on capability ideal for defensive roll. I have been able to hit out to 250yards with this optic, in the rain and heavy rain on torso pingers. Have not found it necessary to go with anything else. I have found for me middle of the receiver works best, gives a good sight picture and a little more fov in unorthodox shooting positions. Never did get the front of receiver thing to work, just made the T1 seem smaller, at least to me. Eotech is great, but fiddling with on buttons and batteries was a bore.

Rail: Centurion C4 mid cutout. Excellent rail, EASY to install, even for me, not being a gun smith and without a vise (apartment living near the city). Enables me to get the light out far, and get my grip where I want it, and vary it based on shooting position/barriers/ect. Feels great, and considering no gunsmithing, reasonably priced. Excellent. Ladder covers are on there now, I actually like bare rails, so these are just on to keep the rail from betting banged up tooo bad.

Vtac padded sling: Have used VTACS since they came out in one form or another. I like the excursion they allow. Works for me.

Troy folding rear: gives me a clean back end, I shoot NTCH and a fixed rear was too much in my face. An older piece from a previous build (should never have sold that 6920 upper).

VLTOR stock: Fits my cheek weld needs perfectly. I run it all the way in for NTCH and it fits me perfectly (I am 5'8", 32" arms)

TLR1: Free from workmate. I have a x300 on my other rifle, could not get it to go on the new rail (common pain in the ass), so I put this on. Would love to go x300 ultra. Some prefer the 1:00 mounting (I have 12:00 on my other rifle that has an RIS II FSP), but I like the simplicity of bolting directly to the rail. I can live with some barrel shadow.

Grip: BCM I used the tango down for the longest time, but with a prior wrist injury (just discomfort) and the stock all the way in, the angle was crap. Similar issue with the MOE. Tried the BCM, now its on both rifles.

That thing looks great man, the functionality of an extended hand guard plus the ability to use a standard FSP. I don't think you can ask for a better combo!

Nice, what length barrel? I have plans for something similar with my BCM, I just wish there was a FSP rail for a middie gas system.
