View Full Version : Hand Guard for Inexpensive "Gamer" Gun
What do people think of this for a low budget 3 gun hand guard?

Honestly, it looks like crap. You can pick up a much nicer Troy rail for a little more. I would trust the Troy rail system over that any day of the week.

I'm sure it will work especially if you don't have the cash to get a gooder one, but in my experience the cheap stuff has tradeoffs whether it be weight, mounts crooked, etc.

Just saw a knights ras that had been painted and stripped for a hundred on calguns.:D
I second going with the Troy. I just put a Troy/Vtac in my rifle and love it. Stock barrel nut, comes with 3 rail attachments, feels great in the hand...
Just my .02
It is an OK FF tube. I have one. I purchased it awhile ago, before I really had any idea what I preferred in a rail/FF tube . Fairly light, and sturdy enough for most use. The weakness is no anti-rotation feature, so if you want it to stay put, loctite is not a bad idea.
Mine mounted straight. No issues with poor quality threading or material.
Nordic makes good products, and this is no exception. It could be alot better with a few more features though.
I personally hate the looks of it. If you like it, I say go for it!

Apologies if I am dense but what do you mean by "gamer" gun?
I am am building an inexpensive gun for use in a 3 gun match I want to shoot every month. I guess I would use the gun as a back up for my primary defensive AR. But this isn't meant to be a fighting gun. So all a broken gun means is a lousy score. I can get those easy enough without the help of the gun.

It generally means a gay person who shoots in competition with a tight satin shirt. Or at a minimum... some tight skinny jeans.

Sir, don't you dare diss my skinny jeans!
Nordic makes quality products for the competition crowd. I personally use the Troy/VTAC Alpha for IPSC Rifle as the circumference and weight is less than most on the market. The new Centurion CMR-rail looks promising (lighter than the VTAC) but it's an additional $100.

Someone here posted an ARs in action pic with jeans that were slightly snug. It was appropriate to abuse him. :p

There's skinny and there's "HELLO!"-skinny.
I believe the Troy/VTAC is $185.

I'll vouch for Troy/Vtac also, My buddy has two Troy TRXs and I have a Vtac. Solid and light.

I will probably shoot in my skin tight bicycle clothing. Spandex for the win.
At the recommendation from a guy at work, I ordered a YHM from Surplus Ammo for just over $100. A little more than I wanted to spend. But it was exactly what I wanted. Ordered it this morning and I already have tracking for it.

I would have gun with your first choice over the yhm handguard.

Honestly, I would just use your primary gun and not worry too much about building a cheapie for competition.

Interesting, the one guy in this thread who has the rail recomends it. Everyone else is chanting troy.

Don't mind Markm. He competed in some 3 gun a few years ago and won big. He's got a bit of an ego now, making fun of gamers. I pulled his championship pic.

OP I'm sure the rail will be fine.

I'm gonna host a big 3 gun match out west with a LWRC prize table and EAG tactical handling all the RO duties. Markm, you get a free slot. We will ban satin shirt and tight pants. Actually, just pants all together.
