Today I think I stumbled upon a good score. An older Express with aluminum trigger guard, non dimpled magazine tube and a non MIM extractor.

My follower that wouldn't fit in my 870 with magazine dimples landed in this guy as soon as I discovered it didn't have the newer dimples and I am stoked!!

Now I just have to decide how I want to use this fella....

That is a nice catch, Brian.

You going to hunt some tasty birds with it? You seem to have the deer under control up there with a lever gun, if I remember right.

I was able to catch a beater 870 off the used rack at Cabela's a few months ago. It's nice to have a testbed shotgun.

Prices on 870 replacement barrels seem to have calmed down recently as well.

You must be in a dry climate or that was well cared for.
Here those rust fast.
How much???

I'm in NC. Semi humid at times.

Snagged it for $200. This one is screaming 18" parkerized barrel possibly.

I have another with 23" turkey/utility woods size and a 28" as well.

I'd like to bust some crows if I can call some in.

Wow, that definitely is a great snag for that price.

If I see any deals on a 18" barrel, I'll forward them your way.

I prefer only the older Remingtons myself.

Riflegear has them with the bead sight for cheap. I just mailed one off today with a receiver to Vang Comp for a massage.

I'm starting to dig the Shotty for home defence!! Might snag a 3 round extended magazine just to use for standby house duty. I can't decide if I really want the extra weight up front or not.

Nice grab. I just got a police trade in 870 from 1990. Its only marked "Remington magnum". It has the old surefire fore end when they were laser company products or something. Speed Feed stock as well. For me $350 was a no brainer. How do you tell if the extractor is mim or not? I assuming its not due to the metal trigger guard but just in case.

The MIM has a bump on it where the NON MIM doesn't. Google MIM 870 extractor and you will find pictures comparing them side by side

Yup, we've got some good threads on that topic. Opinion seems to be split between the Wilson, Vang Comp and Nordic units. Be careful with the cheaper ones, they can come apart - sending your spring and shells flying downrange. Not great, that just leaves you with harsh language and a big club to defend yourself.

I tend to run mostly Vang Comp and Mesa Tactical stuff on my social shotguns. For a mag extension, I run a Vang Comp 2-rounder. A fair number of people like the Wilson 1-round extension, so they can do a select slug drill, and it adds very little weight up front. Nordic makes extensions long enough to use as a fence post, if needed. But their quality is really good.

Hope that helps.

It does

I have a vang comp follower and really like it.

Yes, the Vang is my favorite follower as well, I like being about to determine if a weapon is unloaded in the dark.

I can stick one of my grubby little digits in there, and don't need a light with its hollow construction.

The Nordic stuff weighs next to nothing if not loaded. GH
