I've had what I thought was a chigger bite deep in my belly button for a few days. Took a bath instead of a shower yesterday morning to soak my aching back in hot water and found out I had a real small tick. Couldn't hardly see it.

Went downstairs to my desk in my underwear and got my glasses and a mirror. Couldn't find tweezers so I got a pair of needlenose pliers out of my gun box. I doubt I can explain how hard it is to look in your bellybutton with a mirror and a light and try to get a hold of a miniscule tick with a pair of needlenose while also spreading your belly button open, by yourself. While resting an led light on your penis. Charmed came on and I got a glimpse of Alyssa Milano out of the corner of my eye and the light ended up jumping up and hitting me in the nose.

After about 10 minutes of futile attempts I finally got a hold of the little bastard and yanked him out, along with some flesh. Now my belly button is swelled up and itches like a son of a bitch.

I put alcohol on it immediately yesterday, and then this morning I used some hydrogen peroxide.

Discovered a tick in the same spot years ago after a camping weekend in OK. I feel your pain.

Never pull a tick. If the head breaks off, you can have issues.

Simply put vaseline on it. They can't breath and they back themselves out. Works every time and doesn't leave little bits of tick head or mouth parts in your wound.

I've still got one up on you. Found a little tick like that on the ped of my hecker changing clothes after working out in the yard in shorts about 15 years ago.
Sitting on the edge of the bed I tell the wife, "Look at this". She says oh my God I'm going to heat up a needle and get it to release itself off there,
I said you're not doing any damn thing with a hot needle anywhere near it. I pulled it out, it took a small piece of skin with it. It swelled up and itched for a few days and I couldn't get enough sex for some reason. I told the wife it's still a little sore, she says Yeah I know all about sore and I'll be glad when you get back to normal.

I'll try and remember that next time. Luckily I got the head both times.

I got one there last summer.
My wife ran around calling me tick-dick.

I didn't know about the Vaseline trick.
Good info, thanks.

I just did a google search on the vaseline trick and found several sites that say don't do it.

I wont ever forget once while training at Lejeune....we came in and I swear I was EAT UP around my groin area with, iirc, about 35 ticks.
Holy cow, it was ONE ORDEAL getting them mothers off. We had to inspect one another to make sure we got them all. After that...I took to wearing a shit ton of spray..even spraying the ground before laying down behing my M60. Ive freakin HATED those bastards ever since.

Sounds like a personal problem. Surefire makes some micro models that should balance there just fine...:secret:

Interesting.

My grandmother is the one who showed us that as kids. Guess it may be one of those old world fixes that isn't as good as I thought.

Still, it was far better than having my dad get a cigarette out and burn the little bastards out. :D

I will say this, it always worked and I never got sick from it.

2nd -- these things work great for tick removal, with reduced risk of the vermin vomiting it's guts into you.

Aren't those really little ticks the ones that carry Lyme disease?

Bet me to it, go get the shot and checked for lime or you will regret it. Also there is a tick remover tool, you hook, and twist they pop right out.

My oldest son's Cubmaster informed me that he had good results from using hand santizer (the kind with a high alcohol level) and a q-tip.

Method: apply, wait 10-15 seconds, and roll the dry q-tip over the tick, who'll grab on to the swab.

I get this in principle; however, I've also read that when ticks start having breathing issues, they start secreting more crap out of their little bodies, which has its own set of problems.

Is there really a preferred method?

Thanks for the links, JSantoro.

I've had about 12 on me at one time, it was disgusting. I still have three bites on me from over a month ago. None of them showed any of the symptoms of Lyme disease though. I've also heard of nail polish remover instead of Vaseline. I may have to look into those tools that JSantoro posted though.

A good remedy for chigger(redbug) and tick itching is Listerine mouthwash. Any other over the counter medicine containing menthol, peppermint oil, or eucalypts oil--one or all--gives relief. Rub on arthritis ointment and patches are good sources but think twice before applying it to your Johnson. These chemicals are irritants and override the itching sensation.

I contracted both Lyme & Rocky Mountain Spotted Fever on year in my early 20's. It took me 6 weeks of antibiotics & months to remotely feel better. One of the first significate symptoms I noticed was my arms would go numb, especially the hands. That symptom has never gone away. If I am turning wrenches or working over head or shooting a bunch for a long period without taking a break my hands will be numb so that I can barely feel anything other than "pins & needles". Ticks are serious threats & if you get one itching & swelling do not delay, go to the Dr ASAP.
