Staples Disqualifies Gun Stores, Lumps Firearms Together With Illegal Drugs (http://www.breitbart.com/big-government/2013/05/31/staples-frowns-on-gun-stores-lumps-firearms-together-with-illegal-drugs)

Staples is currently conducting a "PUSH It Forward Contest," which awards a $50,000 marketing campaign to the small business that wins it. However, as Maple Creek Gunsmithing in Fremont, Neb. learned--small businesses that sell guns are not allowed to take part in the contest.

Truth be told, I have never shopped there. But I will shoot them an email telling them that I never will.

From Staples' Facebook page, posted yesterday:

"We heard you! At Staples, we value all of our customers and appreciate your feedback. We now realize the rules of our Push It Forward contest were too restrictive and kept out legitimate businesses. Unfortunately, we can't change the rules once the contest is underway. But we will revise our rules to make sure future contests are more inclusive and reflect our commitment to helping all small businesses."

Sounds like the outcry was very large.

It's one of the best things about instant social media.

While we might get annoyed at the things that are "regular business" on TOS, this is the sort of thing they do better than any other forum I'm aware of.

Looks like Staples got the memo.

True... and I generally try to keep my tin foil kinda loose so my brain can breath easy... but their quick response and no mention of guns has a feel of "we planned for this".

I've found OfficeMax to have better sales, service and product lately anyway. How can any company these days single out anyone in the firearms community and then claim " Oh wow, we had no idea! We'll catch you next time!" .... I have a hard time buying that.

We heard you!

No, I don't think they have.

The people who made this decision are still in charge. No one was fired for it. There was no change in the corporate culture. I am sure they are just sitting around the conference table going "Wow, we sure did piss of those internet gun nuts."

I didn't really hear an apology in their statement.

I don't know if I expect an apology, I'm satisfied with a correction.

And a correction carries with it the connotation that they understand they were wrong.

I am kinda burnt out on corrections from political BS crap like this

a correction is a wrong price advertised on a sale item excluding gun folks is a political thing !

its not a correction in my mind its more what they think and then OH NO we are going to loose money we better reverse our thoughts

how would you like a gun company standing up for what they believe then when some left org beats them they say OK we are for background checks ! when you know they are not

I would rather know what they are truly about and just say OK I choose not to go there !

or better as a business not get involved in Political correct stuff !

A gun company has an implicit political bias just as the adult film industry does.

A hardware store, office supply store or lawn service does not. I don't expect or demand one from them.

I'm sure Staples simply went by the "standard leftist agenda" checklist of what is socially permissible with personal and financially liability being their sole concerns.
