I'm surprised there is no version for the iPad!?!

Can you use the flash as a weapon light?

I'm sorry if I come off as insensitive but this is idiocy. Some moron will be sending a text and try to get a better grip and boom, accidental discharge. If a mother will text while driving on the freeway going 70mph with her baby in the back seat then some moron will answer his phone while shooting. Hopefully the only person that gets hurt will be the dufus with the Iphone. When I hear about some idiot shooting himself because of this I won't feel bad, just like I didn't in high school when some idiot that was sniffing butane froze his lungs and died. We had just went over Darwin and Herbert Spencer's coining of the "survival of the fittest" phrase. My biology teacher shared a knowing nod with me when it was anounced over the intercom. Thank the Lord for all the morons, if it wasn't for them the world would be more over populated than it is already! Hooray for Iphones!

To add some input on a practical function of something like this, I've seen similar used for adaptive shooting (for the disabled). For folks that cannot shoot a rifle the traditional way.

Example here: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Brftan5RxbA

Sooo who else noticed that the rife is missing the bolt and mag catch?

It isn't a real rifle. Probably not a real DD MK18 RIS II either.

Just thinking out of the box here but couldn't this be mounted on like a lower rail and use the camera portion? Not sure if an iPhone could handle the recoil, but wondering other applications instead of what they intended.

Recoil would not be an issue.

Spending money on something this stupid WOULD be an issue.

Could be useful for kids playing airsoft... Other than that, I can't foresee the accelerometer in the iPhone surviving more than a few rounds and the phone as a whole more than a dozen mags (being optimistic here).

Ooh, next gen weapon light/gun camera for the common man... I like your thinking! But if you mount it on the bottom rail, it's harder to access for texting, playing games, etc.

I have a Galaxy so won't be spending money on this lol.

Novel idea of an iPhone mount IMO, just way overpriced for a simple piece of plastic.

I think that the recoil will be an issue over time. Brass hitting screen from buddies rifle...

Or That Other Sport on some gun game sites if you get around to those. I saw a post asking what arfcom had to do with IDPA once. :jester:

It might be worth it for the flashlight and strobe.

And don't forget, VIDEO.

You know, seriously, a previous poster said somthing about disabled shooters or people who could not shoot conventionally. This might have merit for that task. Hmmm...

I had a hard time accepting optics on a rifle. My eyesight had to diminish before I would relent. I have a few scopes, but I still prefer iron sights.

This new piece of equipment will take a long time for an old hardhead like me to accept.

Lets be honest, we all knew this was only a matter of time...

I can't see it having any serious application, but as a range toy it could be fun I guess.

I would be wary to trust the internal gyroscopes of any smartphone to repeated recoil, not to mention the various attachment points on the motherboards.

Seems like a good way to keep your cell phone provider in business however so I support it. ;)

I did some screwing around with cameras on rifles three years ago just for the heck of it.

I am sure I am not telling anyone here anything new.... That offset with the camera what, two inches off to the right and above the bore... completely eliminates any effectiveness of the idea. If you have any hope of using a video image to aim you at least have to get the camera above the bore.

http://i122.photobucket.com/albums/o245/ick-xbox/rifle%20collection/Gun_cam_mount/gun_cam017.jpg

Interestingly enough I did find that with my setup it was possible to be effective around a corner with a 19" target placed at a distance of 50 feet... but that was it.

Interesting concept, and perhaps more practical using my Sony camcorder. Unfortunately a waste as stated.

The blur when moving is nauseating as well.

Example of consistency when shooting around a corner using the camera video screen.

Can't wait for someone to bring their AR mounted iPhone in for support at the Genius Bar

And yeah, if I wanted a camera on my rifle, then I'd buy something purpose-built (Contour, GoPro, etc.) rather than trashing an iPhone.

Actually I had known about this beastly looking thing in 2002 or something like that:

http://www.oocities.org/bairdj/oicw.htm

I wondered if it could be done... so I fabricated a mount for my camera.

Somehow I just don't see that set up holding up as well as an Aimpoint. Call me skeptical... :D

But those are so flimsy, they would never work for serious use. I'd go with the iPhone if you're looking for the ultimate durability...

Would be a cool way to film a hunt from a stationary blind but would in no way be viable in a tactical situation.

As a toy, maybe. As a tool, hell no.

But it could be a fun way of getting kids into the shooting sports. Who knows.

Sooo who else noticed that the rife is missing the bolt and mag catch?

Its a SolidWorks or 3DS model, not an actual rifle. You can download the 3d model of the lower receiver, the designer of this thing did not take the time to model in the lower parts kit.

If I put it on my carbine, can I get the HBO package as an option?

All I know is I wish I thought of that.

Stupid or not, practical or not, I think it will sell.

Sooner or later there will be an app to deal with offset issues. How consistently accurate the video image of an iphone will be for this application remains to be seen.
