Bought this from a buddy pretty cheap, anyone have an idea of the age or other specific info on it? He tells me is is a Colt but I'd like to verify. The barrel has no markings but research tells me it is a 1/9 twist. It is 16" long. Pretty heavy under the hand guards. It will need the finish redone but the bore and barrel look great inside. Taking it out to the range in a coup,e weeks to try it out.

Not a Colt. Looks like something Oly put out several years ago. Is that a PM mark on the upper?

Damn Scotty..... Take it easy on the man. You need to slowly break it off.... Not with the quickness.

Thanks for the link.

$250 is what I bought it for, but that also includes some other parts I was buying oiginally. It was a cheap upper and if it shoots okay I'll have a friend re-finish it. I put a BCG and charging handle from another AR in it and they worked pretty smoothly so thats a plus. I'll take it out to test fire this weekend. It's a project, and one that didn't set me back a ton of money to have to try to re-sale if it doesn't work out.
Thanks to all for the input.

Why refinish it?

Why refinish it?

Actually, decided not to. I took some DuraCoat cleaner/degreaser to it and it cleaned up well so I'll leave it as is.

I have seen several of these uppers over the years and they are strictly .223 cut chambers. Avoid 5.56 pressure loads as I have seen three Ka-Booms and a few more cracked uppers.

My suggestion is to trade it off since you have no idea of its history or the ammo shot out of it. But if your intent on keeping it only shoot low pressure Russian .223 steel cased ammo and have a competent AR armorer preform a full inspection to insure its safe.

The PM marking is Capco/ Martin Marietta. Should be Sandstrom 9 in finish. AFAIK, there is nothing wrong with the upper by itself. Been running one of these on an XM clone since 1989 without issue.
