So I'm having my barrel painted with cerakote, and figured my plain jane stock needed a something too, so a pre step I wanted to do some Marine Tex texturing first. The info I found just didn't have enough pictures, so here are mine.

Hope they help!!

Time to do this: 4 hours. I did all this when I got home from work tonight.

Here is what I started with.

Here is prep:
I sanded, wiped, sanded wiped, scrathed the stock where I wanted the texture.
Then I cleaned it with acatone.

Got the blue paintes tape out.
Used my log book picture as a guide to what I wanted.

I used my rubber glove to make the texture look, tap over and over as it started to hardend up). I used to much Marine tex and had to scrape it off then push the stuff around with my rubber gloved fingers then tap'd more.

Nice job...are you going to soften it up a bit or leave it as rough as it is? I'm planning on doing a texture job as well.

Here it is so far.
Heard from the Gsmith saying the paint job on the barrel /action will be done this week.

So here is the First of the color for the stock, once this is all dry - I will start the stenicls for the camo.

now all I need to find is the lite brown krylon ultra flat and I'm done :) right :o

Thanks!!

Got the Marine Tex from a boat supply. pretty cheap - $13 for the 2 oz which was more then enough!

I added some more brown to it and fix the little stuff that was driving me nutz.

looks great! I have a mauser 98 that ive been torn about, turn into a tacticool or leave it original, it is an import after all and not worth much.

I wanted to ask about the tape, I have found in the past with small non-gun projects that if i try to peel off the tape when it is dry the paint lifts and streatches and peels, and if its wet it run's. How did you go about removing the tape/stencil's?

You have to peel the tape at sharp angles to the surface while it is still somewhat wet. If you wait for it to dry completely it may/will lift the paint at the egdes.
