View Full Version : SCAR 17 Issue
Sorry to resurrect this but couldn't find anything remotely describing my current situation.
New scar 17, new mag. Prvi ppu brass ammo.
At about round count 60, there was a stove pipe but the next round was in the chamber.
This seems weird as an fte would preclude next round from feeding no?
Fired another 140 rounds no problem, no failures even when ch hit my thumb.
Should I be concerned or is this just break in?
Thanks

No "break-in" required. Probably your ammo.

You're saying that particular round was weird?
This thread seems to cover a similar occurence

I'm saying try different ammo. At least see if it occurs with other Manufactured Ammo. Personally I don't buy the whole "break-in" period theory. Either the weapon runs or it doesn't.
I had an interesting malfunction in my scar17 yesterday and seeing this thread I went and found the case. I thought it might be prvi but it turned out to be winchester 147 grain nato. I have a ton of both so I wasn't sure what was in the mag.
Son in law was behind the rifle so I'm not sure what stage of shooting he was in, whether he had just loaded a mag or it happened in the middle of a mag. I was around the corner in the shop loading more mags for him. I should have paid more attention and asked a few questions but I just quickly dropped the mag and ejected the culprit. I suspect he inserted a new mag and didn't seat it although as I think about it this doesn't make much sense to me. It was a brand new mag that had been cerakoted so it's a little stiff to insert.
Unfired cartridge was chambered and this was behind it locking up the works.

Bad pictures but the neck was gouged and the bullet seated at an angle. I pulled the bullet from the case by hand. Re-inserted it for the pic.
Looks like bolt pushed round into the mag well or breech face. I see this a lot in my hk 91, it's a mag and ammo issue on that gun.
My scar malf bent the bullet that was chambered too
Is the gas regulator in the correct position?

Stephen
Yes sir 12 o'clock
Almost looks like a casing from an over-gas issue.. Strange :(

I have noticed some Prvi 308 being much longer OAL than most commercial 308. May have something to do with it.
I wouldn't worry about it since it was a single incident. I've seen some weird $hit happen once. ;)
wow ive never had that problem.. and i have a lot of PPU ammo too
Update: after about 300 rounds, zero issues
