I am looking into some training courses in texas and southern Oklahoma. Looking for handgun and carbine courses. I have searched but do not know of the credibility of any of the training groups. I don't want to travel several hours for a 2-4 hour class.

Thanks to anyone who has some information.

I'm in SW Oklahoma and have access to a 500yd range with pistol bays and a separate 50 yd range. I'm not a professional trainer and I have no HSLD credentials, but I have taken a class or two and I'd appreciate a training buddy.

Let me know if you want to go shoot. I used to go shoot every weekend, but skipped the last two weeks and I'm feeling super rusty. I've also been concentrating on more long range shooting and haven't shot closer than 100 yds with a carbine/rifle since January.

As far as more "formal" classes, there are none afaik in southern OK and northern TX. If you go up to OKC you can find them and if you go south to Gainesville (just North of Dallas), they get reputable trainers in all the time.

If I'm wrong and you find some, let me know and I'll go with you!

I hope to attend one or both of these. Talk about 4 days spent well. I have not had any formal training, but am longing to do so.

Yep, Red River in Gainesville :p

Good facility, but it's like an 8 mile drive through dirt and gravel roads twice a day. A regular sedan can definitely make it, but it's scary at times since everyone convoys out instead of carpooling.

It seems like I have 8 miles of dirt road to drive any time that I shoot. I looked at some pics on Red River's site and it looked to me like there had to be 20+ people in one of those classes!?!? That doesn't seem very appealing to me. Where have you taken classes, and what was the size?

I think it was 15 or so there. Not much 1 on 1 with a class that big. I might go for Vickers though... Hm... You going for sure?

Want to go-100%. Able to go-50%. I will probably sign up and force myself to go, even if I have to take off work. I would be more than willing to share a ride. Do you think that all classes at Red River are that big? It that the norm at most classes?

OP, what other instructors have you found that are in close proximity to where you are willing to travel?
