how difficult is it to put together a 5.56 pistol that runs reliabley?

it seems that they are less popular than the 9mm's, is it because of the reliability or just because the 9mm is easier on the wallet?

thanks -

It's not difficult at all. It appears that most people start having problems when they try getting a pistol specific buffer on their AR pistol.

I have countless thousands of rounds through my .223/5.56 AR pistol with zero problems, full size buffer tube. I tried a smaller one, and it would fail once about every 50 rounds. The carbine buffer tube went back on, and no problems since. The .223 AR pistol is one of my most fun guns, but my 9mm AR is just as fun and is half as expensive to shoot. However, the initial investment was a bit steeper. The 9mm paid for itself after about 3 range trips.

I put together an Anvil Arms complete lower and a Kitty Kat upper recently, and it's great. I've got about 200 rounds through it so far without any problems. It's more fun than the law should allow.
