I've got Bulgarian wood furniture and the old Vemon handguards from Autoburst.net back in the day. They're slick and pretty heavy with the added benefit of having zero places to mount a light, sling or foregrip.
I know there are a few other handguard systems out there, but I haven't heard enough about them to put one option clearly above the others.
