Hi all,

Starting to strongly consider a 7.62x39 carbine and am interested in y'all's opinions of these two firearms. I'm just enough of a contrarian that an AK doesnt appeal to me.

Well if not a ak you could wait and hope that Colt releases there 901 upper lower combo.

ARX?

I think they are bringing that caliber to America after 5.56 and .300Blk.

How long in the future will that be? Nobody knows.

Maybe it's just the angle on the photos, but the feed angle on that thing just doesn't look right. Almost like the bullets will be pointed slightly upwards. Could just be my imagination though.

Here are a couple of more pics of it in service.

I agree, the angle looks weird to me too, but it could just be shape of the ARX combined with the curve of the AK mag.

If this is just a fun toy, get which ever one appeals to you the most visually. (I would prefer the HK derived because I think the roller locked actions are neat)

If it is for potentially serious use, I would go with a high quality AK.

I personally, would look at the real world usage of either of the above mentioned firearms and use that as a clue.;)

I haven't hear anything good or bad about the PTR but I heard A LOT bad about the Sig offering when it was first released.

You said no ak but what about a vz58? Another good option and lighter than an ak, even if it looks like one

If the AK is off the menu, I'd go with a Vz58 or wait for the ARX-100.

(And I don't see what anyone is talking about with the magazine. Looks normal to me. But that's me.)

It is true that there were major problems with the Sig first time around. The latest generation ones work flawlessly.

When I read the original question, I immediately start thinking of what I'd do to each rifle to turn it into something that I'd want. Let me tell you exactly how I think it out.

Can you actually find a PTR-32? If it were me, I'd look for the KFR (railed) version. I'd lose that aluminum handguard real quick. Replace it with a slim green or black handguard. Lose the stock and replace it with a Choate folder. The Choate folder for HK rifles is built to the satisfaction of HK themselves. It is absolutely superior, and is an easy U.S. part. Throw a T-1 on the rail, and you're done.

Sig 556r? Don't like that right out of the box either, but I started with the non-SWAT model.

For plastic handguard models -- lose the handguards. Install TROY battlerail. TROY sights. It's imperative that those sights be Larue stamped. Lose the stock. Install DDLES converter and Magpul UBR. Throw a zurich wedge inside the rifle to tighten it up. T-1 on the rail and you're done.

The real reason I put the TROY rail on mine was because I don't really care for that Sig dovetail front sight scheme. Most of my railing is simply index clipped.

As long as I'm telling you exactly how to do things, get you one of them VCAS slings and cut the quick-adjust webbing off and throw that on the rifle.

My 556r shoots like a dream. I buy the cases of Golden Tiger from sgammo and shoot all day long. All issues with the first generation of Sigs were rectified. It can be a real sweet shooter.

Too bad.

And not to make the decision more difficult, but it seems Colt may be stepping into the 7.62x39 market.
