Some are more elegant than others. :)

Just FYI - your post should've went here:

Also, it would be nice if you added some details and discussion so that people can actually admire AND learn about the choices that you have made with this rifle. Posts/threads like these don't really survive very long here.

And I appreciate what you are saying.

But if jlw is who I think he is, I'm delighted to have him here at M4C. You wouldn't happen to be the famous "lunchtime lawman", would you, jlw? If you are, it's good to see you!

Folks, I believe he's a friend. But I would like to hear more about the lever gun. Who did you have do the work, and what finish is that? I'm scrounging for an old Marlin myself to send to Joe Barnsfeather.

LOL. I'm busted.

The rifle is, obviously, a Marlin 336. I bought it back in the late '80s from a pawn shop while I was still in high school. Fifteen or so years later I sent it to a place in Arizona (http://www.shootiniron.com/) and had all of the metal parkerized in black. The stock is from Ramline.

One of the local cowboy action gunsmiths has offered to work over a rifle for me, and I think I am going to let him slick this one up.

I gave my son the .30-30 in favor of keeping the joint-displacing .45-70, but these are beautiful and very much under-the-radar rifles. Joe learned me well on the lure of the levers.

Ha, I knew it! :D Welcome aboard, Chief! You Georgia lawmen are welcome here any day of the week.

That will be pretty interesting to see what he does with it. Do let us know how it works out. That parkerizing should be helpful with your rain and humidity.

I'm really thinking about having Joe build a matching set of .30-30 Marlins for myself and my daughter. My young Soldier loves wrenching on the machine guns at work, but wanted something, and I quote, "more cerebral".

I'm just hunting for a set with some nice wood now.
