Looking for somebody/ company that does good custom retrofit work for tactical gear.

Long story short- need to have the belt attachment straps for a couple Drop Leg items reworked- one I just need a strap made up to certain specs, the other will involve the factory strap being removed, and a new one sewn on...involving mesh. :suicide2:

I already have a general idea of what I want, but I can't actually make the stuff myself.... so I need to find someone who can.

Here's the catch- it would be great if I could find a place that doesn't have a 6-month lead time.

I was thinking about contacting Jones Tactical, as this is a service they offer on their site and they're apparently good quality, but again, I know they're pretty small and see the above about lead times....

Any thoughts?

Question for you - do you need design work, or is it basically stitching with you pointing out what needs to be done?

The reason I ask, is that I have had very good luck taking things to a local cobbler who repairs boots. He's done sewing work on slings, belts, and a Safariland holster repair like the one you mentioned.

I just showed him what I wanted done, and he used his industrial sewing machine. All it cost me was some cigars and alkyhaul, and he did it while I waited.

Hope that helps and saves you time and money.

I would say 90% stitching work, with about 10% design, as there are actually a couple things I want done away with the factory design and changed to something else to make it work for me- and while I have a few ideas, I'm not quite sure how to make it work. It may actually have to be a combination of a couple things.

Unfortunately I don't have anything like that local to me. :(

First one that came to mind is Volund Gearworks. They (he) is the one that makes the Atlas belt. I'm about 99.9% sure they do custom work by request. No clue on lead times...

Here's another question- what webbing does a company like Wilderness Tactical use for their belts? I have a 5-stitch.
I know there's a couple different letter/number types, and I can't seem to find which is which.

I'm guessing 4088, but type 7 or 13?

Then there's also 17337 and 43668...

Aside from the shoe shop mentioned, you might also want to try one of the places that do boat covers and curtains. Any big boat dealer in your area can tell you who does their work.

There are also automotive and motorcycle seat cover sewers and even awnings makers. Anyone that can sew heavy material can do it.

Oh, heck yeah! Matt is a real good guy, and very easy to work with. Plus his quality is very, very good.

When I was stationed at Camp Lejeune there was a local guy that sewed our ghillies and made chest rigs for us out of his garage. Fast forward a few years and I see that a company by the same name is big in the tactical world. I emailed mean gene to see if High Speed Gear was his company and if he still did custom work. Indeed it was the same company and he said he'd still do custom design and sewing. All my original gear is still going strong and the first line belt I recently ordered is outstanding. I'd shoot him an email.

No freakin' way-seriously?

Unfortunately, I'd feel a little...well, lame I guess calling them for custom work, as one of the items I need modifed is actually an HSGI item (The other is a Safariland).... :o

Coastwatcher, that is a lot of links- will check them out. Thanks!

Good idea - maybe find a parachute rigger or someone like that?

If there is a local DZ near the OP, they might be able to help too.

Consider pinging eggroll. He may not be doing retrofitting/customizations, but may also know some sharp folks that do.
