Wow....he shaved a whole bunch off.....

Is the idea to make the weapon cycle faster and handle a bit better?

impressive...most impressive.

How is the trigger pull?

Any velocity gains or accuracy gains with the new barrel?

It will make is cycle faster and with less flip.....basically it'll handle differently. I'll likely have to experiment with different recoil spring rates. Right now it has a variable 11lb spring in it. The better I get at shooting the more I notice little things, like that I prefer shorter lighter faster running guns. I encountered this with preferring a G17 over a G34. To me even with lighter springs the G34 to me felt like it cycled slowly and was taking forever to cycle and that the sights tracked slowly. I'm talking about a time difference measured in hundreds of a second but it did annoy me so then I tried a G17 with a lighter recoil spring and loved it and sold the G34. I imagine that I'll very likely end up liking the standard M&P9 over the M&P9L too.

My trigger hasn't changed, it's a C&S drop-in (I installed) it's a very crisp 4lbs with almost no overtravel. The barrel is still the same one which is a Schuemann (www.schuemann.com) AET .40 bull barrel.

It should be much better. 'Driving' this gun to multiple targets should be much better now and yes it shouldn't cause flare-ups with 'tennis elbow' in my left elbow again. Shooting a heavy handgun at 1-3 targets is easy it's when you have 16 targets that you'll really notice the weight kicking your ass.......especially when you're used to a Glock 17 or M&P9.

I could see in these new pics that the barrel was a Schuemann AET, I guess I didn't realize you already had one in that gun.

The gun looks real nice.

Very nice, with the way it tapers toward the front it made me think of a 1911/Hi Power having a kid

I had a chance to check out Robb's STI project today, and it's pretty kick-ass (way lighter than it looks)! Here's a little something to get you motivated with that barrel crown...

Stan's work is awesome. And so there's no confusion, the blaster pictured is not mine... on to more pics of Stan's legacy custom 38 super build here (http://louderthanwords.us/forum/viewtopic.php?f=6&t=1222)

I'm considering having Shanahan (http://www.advancedperformanceshooting.com/) paint the grip on my STI exactly like this S&W 22.

Shanahan painted my G35 (my first Limited gun).

I shot my first match after having my Limited gun reworked.

I used a 14lb ISMI recoil spring and Atlanta Arms .40 MATCH (it's loaded very long, too long for Glocks) but I get it for a pretty good price with todays ammo prices. I don't really have time to reload so it's a good compromise.

I placed 7th in Limited (out of 42) yesterday at Fredericksburg. I got 70% on the classifer (Golden Bullet Standards) a high B class performance, Todd Jarrett won Limited and I shot 70% of his score.

Not too bad I thought. The gun feels really good and I'm still getting used to it. It cycles so flat that I'm seeing the sights move but not off target and thinking that it's running slowing, it's not running slow at all it's just not lifting like it used to so even when shooting at targets at distance I can see the front sight still in the notch of the rear sight and thinking I can shoot again. It's a weird experience. I'm used to the slow motion like experience with seeing the sights lift, smoke, brass eject etc, but this is a whole new level all together.

Wait until you get older then you can make it an open gun, no more trying to focus on the front sight!

Who did the porting?

WallaS
06-15-08, 18:20
I don't think it is ported, last time I shot competition (2002) limited pistols couldn't be ported. I think gotm4 had the slide lightened.

Robb Jensen

Who did the porting?

The slide has been lightened A LOT. It weights 11.9oz with the sights, FP, FP stock, extractor etc. installed. The barrel isn't ported.

Kevin Greeley did the work. www.greeleycustom.com he does awesome work.

any drawbacks to the lightening mod? would this mod be suited for a standard type gov't slide in a recreational gun?

This is a 'race gun' I wouldn't lighten up a defensive/carry gun.

Here's some pics with the new Caspian rear sight and new rear of the slide serrations. It was way too slick. I'll be sending off the slide for IonBond soon.

Kevin Greeley did the excellent work. www.greeleycustom.com

Nice blaster dude. I was playing with my Brazos BCG Pro Limited gun a little yesterday. Made me miss shooting Limited. Probably in 2010 I'll go back. I enjoy the darkside for now.

I'm shooting Open Minor until my M&P9L is legal in Production.....doh!

Hopefully not to many of my classifiers will drop off, I'm like 1.4% from A class in Production right now. :D

I used Atlanta Arms .40 MATCH (it's loaded very long, too long for Glocks) but I get it for a pretty good price with todays ammo prices. I don't really have time to reload so it's a good compromise.

Background on that ammo: although it is .40 S&W ammo, it is loaded to the length of 10mm ammo. If you have ever tried to load 10mm ammo into the magazine of a Glock .40 (or most .40 cal magazines) you know that 10mm is too long to fit in the magazine or the pistol.

Why would such ammo work in Robb's gun then?

In USPSA (aka IPSC) the .40 cal round is the minimum bullet diameter allowed in the divsion or "class" that Robb is shooting: Limited Division, Major power factor. The most popular gun for that division in the USA is a custom STI or SV high capacity 1911 (even though Glocks have won national championships and 75s/CZs tend to dominate internationally). The STI/SV .40 still uses a magazine long enough to accomodate the longer .45ACP, and its long enough to accept 10mm too. Such guns feed better on longer-loaded .40 ammo. Plus, loading .40 that long allows the use of very fast burning powder that would blow the case if loaded as short as most factory 40S&W. Since we rarely pick up brass & we shoot a lot, its much cheaper to simply load .40 really long.

Good shooting Robb! Nice gun BTW.
