Okay ... I now have my first Ruger 10/22 (it's the compact rifle model). I've installed the weaver rail, and now I need a red dot.

I'm not forking over enough money to get an Aimpoint.
I'm not forking over enough money for an EOTech.
It needs to be rugged enough to withstand the brutal recoil of the mighty .22LR cartridge.
Prefer integral weaver/picatinny style mount.
Prefer smaller dot size ... 3MOA would be about perfect, but I could tolerate anything up to 5MOA dot.
Prefer less than $50, but for the right item I might go as high as $100.

Thanks!

I used to use a Bushnell Holosight on a Smith 22A. The frame cracked, by the way, but I don't think it was from recoil.

Just picked up a charger a few days ago. I had a BSA red dot laying around that i intended to use on another .22 a few years ago and mounted it.

The dot size is large, i would wager its around 8MOA but it has a built in weaver/picatinny mount and i believe i payed $30.00 for it at walmart.

I'd also consider the ultradot's. I only have two, but I haven't run into any zero problems. Except for replacing batteries often, I have no complaints.

Couldn't stand the large irregular-shaped dot on my BSA RD30. You know, I'd prefer a lightweight pistol dot, but there aren't many budget options for that. The $140 RDP 2 is available in 3moa.

I snagged a TruGlo red dot on my way home from a USPSA pistol match today. It was inexpensive, the 5MOA dot was reasonably circular, and it's not heavy. I have it mounted on the 10/22 now, with witness marks painted on the thumb screws so I know if they start to loosen.

I won't have a chance to zero it until the end of this week at the earliest.

If you're not in too much of a hurry some of the older Aimpoints like the 5000 series can be had on eBay for good prices. I recently picked up a NIB Aimpoint 5000 2X for less than $200.

my 10/22 has a barska. they are ok when you can find them for cheap. don't pay more than around $60 or so.

i think temperature shifts the POI, but if you don't mind a little rezeroing it will hold for a range session.

just might not hold between sessions :p

My 11 year old son saved up his money for this Bushnell for his 10/22. He liked the green/red and different recticle options.

$85 at opticsplanet.com, just ordered it. Guess we'll see if works. I have heard the POI shifts when the recticle is changed. Hell, I'm sure he'll have fun with it (keep him from chewin' up my .223 rounds for a while!).
