Saw this in CNN earlier pretty wild

WOW! Damn.. I cant help but think that First off, any loss of life is tragic. in this digital age I would be using a small monopod and a remote screen or tilt screen like a periscope !
would not be looking through any viewfinder anymore !
I am a photographer for a living so can relate to looking through a viewfinder connecting you more in some ways but I would not be doing it !

From what I gather this kid was a Muslim brotherhood supporter.
If you are in an unfriendly area, expect to get shot. It's that simple.

Snipers use whatever weapons they have at hand.
The deadliest sniper to ever live got something like half of his confirmed kills with an iron-sighted submachine gun and the vast majority of the remainder with an iron-sighted bolt-action battle rifle. He only got a handful with an actual, scoped "sniper rifle"... which he quickly discarded because he liked the other two guns better.

Interesting reading. It's sad our history virtually ignores the Winter War and often portrays the Finns as "Nazi allies" due to Stalin's change of sides during the war.

Pretty rapid target acquisition by the shooter. I almost wonder if he hadn't been told to shoot the guy to his left holding a camera/potential rifle.

I get where you're coming from (and so do others, obviously) but that "simplicity" was borne more out of ignorance than any political reality. The Muslim Brotherhood has been trying to violently seize control of Egypt since the reign of King Farouk. Egyptian politics have been a bloodsport for over half a century.
