The above appears to be the official notification of Remington's contract cancellation. It says "for the convienience of the government". Anyone know the scoop behind this?

Was that the contract they underbid Colt on?

"For the convenience of the government" appears to be one of the greatest reasons for cancelation ever.

So they got the production capacity to build a lot of AR-15s.

Do you guys think Freedom Group is run by smart enough people who will sell to civilians at a high profit margin and cannot keep up with demand or strenuously try to sell to police at a low profit margin?

I can't access the link, but I'm 95% sure that this is the contract that FN underbid following the revelation of bids during the protest.

Considering what the demand of a Remington ACR would be if they would just sell to civilians, I'd say that company is run by a bunch of idiots. I'm pretty sure most people would prefer a Remington ACR vs. a SCAR 16s as an alternative 5.56 rifle. Instead they let Bushmaster sell an abortion of the rifle to civilians which hardly anyone wants, go figure.

I had heard rumors of this about two weeks ago. This form is dated May 17. Looks legit.

But honestly, is anyone surprised at this? I couldn't believe they got the contract in the first place.

With all of the conflicts and funding ending, I don't see this as much of a shock.

I'm pretty sure that this is simply the official response following the re-bid resulting from the protest. Nothing new.

Yeah, I figured it was the government finally getting around to the official paperwork, albeit a little late, for Remington.

From what I understand, there are about 5,000 Remington marked M4s out there now. Be a neat keepsake for posterity if they could be snatched up.

I wonder if they are this model or the more traditional design

The government is notoriously slow in doling out the paperwork and yes they can call and cancel most things pretty quick. Heck, they usually just send you an email!

It's the nature of the business and often built into the cost of a contract (aka, the risk of doing business with them).

Since they were contracted to build M4A1 carbines, I'd imagine they were basic carbines that look just like every other M4A1 in the Army with the exception of the roll mark on the side.

Also ambi safety. I know the 101st got the first batch.....they may have got the only batch.

This is the response to the rebid in which FN won. Funny thing is now FN makes the M16/M4 and Colt makes their LMG's......

According to the document the government is still paying for 0004AA which was for delivery of 1 rifle with payment of 1,665,922.50. That should help offset the cancellation notice a bit.

WOW, I hope all parts were staked properly at that price!!!!

Funny... I looked at the Remington M4's at SHOT show and was impressed with the features: ambi controls and recessed QD sockets in the receiver. Upon closer examination I noticed the lower was engraved "Mega". When I was at the Mega Arms booth, I asked about them making the Remington lowers, and the guy said "Really, they had those on display?! Those were prototypes we did for them!"

I wonder what the "0008AA" they only ordered one of is.

Maybe Remington will focus on putting out a decent ACR for me to buy. That would be pretty cool. :D

LOL, exactly. Do what the government did and go with a FN.
